Wipers poor TS wagon?
Is it just me or are the 2004 TS windshield wipers poor?
Mine smear on the return swipe when it contacts the fluid buildup from the passenger(right) wiper. Tried new blades and arms with no improvement.

Yes, mine did exactly this as well. I have a 2004 WRX Sedan and have streaks on the driver's side on the return swipe (the "going up" swipe is fine). Every time it returns, it makes a loud noise and it does not clearly do its job, literally. I brought the car to the local dealership, and they "cleaned it." I am not sure if they meant the wiper blades or the windshield, but the problem was not solved. I am thinking about changing to Bosch Micro Edge wipers. Has anyone had experience with Bosch wipers before? By the way, my car was delivered with this problem. The wipers never wiped clearly on the windshield to begin with. Whenever the rain contacts the windshield glass, it smears (when it should really form a bubble, I think). I have tried Rain-X and it works -- but only for a few weeks. I find it hard to believe how such a new car can have these problems, and why Subaru cannot do much to help other than a "cleaning job." I am sure if it was Audi, then they would probably immediately replace the wipers at no cost to the owner. Kevin |

The blades and arms were replaced with OEM parts via the dealer with no improvement. It seems to me that the tension spring on the left wiper arm is not strong enough. The blade appears to lift slightly when it contacts the fluid ridge created by the right wiper. |

Yes, there is something awkward about that fluid ridge. It sort of appears like it's sticky -- sort of glue-like. And, like you said, the left blade lifts when it hits this ridge. I used some Windex glass cleaner on the ridge and it rubbed off as if it was like glue. I wonder if my blades are melting. Anyhow, I have an appointment tomorrow with the Subaru dealer, so I'm hoping some parts will be replaced. Quote:
My AC compressor is also pretty loud when it starts up, but I'm not sure if it's as loud as yours though. On a side note, I've noticed that my climate control dial doesn't work as nicely as it should. The dial doesn't fully engage into the full defrost position. When it arrives at that position, it slides back a little automatically. I have the link below, where several people also have this problem. I am not sure if it's actually a problem (that needs to be fixed), or whether it's engineered to be this way. Since that link is about 3 years old, I am wondering if anybody here has this same problem in their cars. I'm thinking that by 2004, Subaru engineers should have already fixed this, but maybe they haven't. Link: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...frost+AND+Dial Kevin |
