Well, I'm fairly certain that it IS the actual car.

BUT there's obviously a lot of cosmetic Photoshop work, you can see that pretty clearly in the photos.

Compare the side-by-sides of this car and the white test car from the spy shots, though, and you can see that it's preeeetty close.

JDM grilles will be ordered, like crazy. But I'm definitely reserving judgment, for just a few more days:

Default Tell me what is wrong with this article...

Subaru will reveal its rally-bred 2008 Impreza WRX at the New York show, sans the much criticized and short-lived three-hole grille. Replacing the three-section grille is a horizontal spreading-wing grille that Subaru says pays homage to the company's aviation heritage.

The grille looks like a Ford Windstar minivan.

Ya know, what really kills this car is the big curve that carries from the a-pillar through the roofline. That combined with the hatchback and the Chrysler face make it look very cheap.

It looks kinda like Kia ripped off a Mazda 3.

I wonder what they did with the sedan? I can't see that rounded roofline without the hatch.

four words... "horizontal spreading-wing grille" remove that and the car doesn't completely make me vomit.

Whats wrong is that they imply that everyone hated it so much it was removed in 2 years. When, in fact, its always redone every two years.

From what Andy (AnnapolisSubaruSales) was telling us, this makes perfect sense.

Subaru is going after the small car market in a big way. They don't care about catering to the boy racer crowd as much as they care about people who buy econoboxes to commute.

Perfect business sense...just not very exciting.

I don't even care to speculate, but I think there is hope. I mean, there are a lot of hot hatches in the WRC.

I think each year the STI and Wrx's have gotten better and I have no doubt that this year they will be even better. Just have to wait until we have all the information and the cars are actually available to the public. I think people keep forgeting that this is the wagon, there is still a sedan we haven't seen.

follow on article...

Mori, a marketing executive named president in June 2005, made it clear he no longer is pursuing the dream of his predecessor, Kyoji Takenaka, to remake Subaru into a "global premium brand." In recent years, Subaru added luxury features and raised stickers on many models but fell short of its sales goals.

"The goal of being a global player hasn't changed," Mori said. "But 'premium' carried a 'luxurious' implication. That's not who we are."

I really didn't like the three nostril airplane grill, but I REALLY hate the look of the new WRX.

I still love my GC8 the most, followed by the 04-05 front end, and the bug eyes next.

The new WRX looks terrible.

That's reassuring. In the "New STI: Fast on Four" Best Motoring they were talking about targeting the M3 with the new STi's. With the LTD I was really concerned that they were moving that way...
