However, it would drop more when coming to a stop. I cleaned my filter and the MAF with a MAF cleaner and the problem disappeared. It's been about 6 months and I am starting to have the same problem. I will clean and see if that helps.

I had the idea of cleaning my air filter pop into my head today...So I set out to do that... It's the AEM CAI with the dry filter... I hadn't cleaned it since I put it on the car, and after having my motor built this summer, I thought it would be a good idea!

after cleaning the filter using just my air compressor and vacuum, purging it from inside out I was shocked at how much dust makes it past the filter into the intake...

That aside as soon as I refired the car my idle was rough for a bit and then the car shutoff. Long story short after resetting the ECU and panicking that I may have thrown off the pro tune done on the car I was advised to clean the MAF... Crisis averted and the car seems to run fine now. For awhile I was thinking my filter was so dirty it threw off the tune...I'll clean both my filter and MAF every oil change from now on...

Just to keep giving people reassurance to do this, I did this today. Took the MAF off and it looked pretty dirty on the outside. Sprayed it down with MAF cleaner and the IAT looked pretty good after a few sprays. I sprayed in the side with the actual MAF a few times and the "top" wire of the MAF sensor looked brand new. The bottom one looked like someone hocked a tar loogie on it. I sprayed it some more and it was still dirty. I let it soak for 10 minutes, sprayed it again and nothing. I was down to about a quarter of a can of this stuff. So, I know people have advised against this, but I went ahead and got a qtip and gently rubbed the wire. It took about 10 minutes of cleaning but it finally looked just like the top one. I sprayed it a few more times, reinstalled everything, took it for some light driving and after about 40 miles I decided to get on it. It felt like a brand new car. I had hesitation above 4k rpm in any gear. It's all completely gone. Pretty sure I'll be doing this every other oil change or so.

EDIT - just got my car inspected and this cleared my P0171 code as well. This is so easy that you should definitely try this first before spending anymore money to try and clear that code.

I have a slight A/F Correction issue around 2000 RPMS with my 08 WRX on the OTS Stage 1 91 Oct Cobb map. It was suggested that I take a look at the MAF sensor, then I found this thread. I'm going to run out tomorrow when it's not 34 degrees out and give it a shot. For the skeptics, I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Can this be done easily on a GC8 Type RA? Probably hasn't been done in a long time. Not even sure what a MAF sensor looks like..

About once a year, usually around the beginning of summer.

I usually do an annual beginning of summer "refresh", which is usually simple things like; clean the MAF, run a can of fuel injector cleaner, reset ecu, etc... Takes maybe 10-15 minutes.

Stop wasting $5.99 on a bull ***** fuel injector. Seriously, give me the 6 bucks If you feeling like blowing cash for no reason. Its not gonna make one iota of a difference to the car.

I usually clean my maf once a season since im running a CAI. I think i should do it more often though.

Well, i figure it is mostly snake oil, but it is only one can of sea foam per year. The CO high altitude fuel isn't always the greatest either, as our "premium" is 91 Octane at best, might not be ACN91 bad though.

Its more out of habit as I have run a can of seafoam once per year on my past vehicles (seemed to help those a bit more, old fuel injection and diesel technology, etc..).

Some is crap but some are simply better to run.
Here in california we dont get the best quality 91octane gas.
I pour 2 bottles of chevron techron inj. Cleaner in every 5k miles. 1 at a time back to back on fillups.

Helps get rid of the deposits the lower quality gas leaves.
Its already in the chevron gas but not as concentrated as other states so I add it every once in a while. Too much can leave deposits on the plugs from weird combustion tho.

To be fair its expensive and only buy it when I get one free with purchase.

Cleaned my MAF after seeing high negative Learning 1 -12.0,1A-11.0,1B- 10.5.Didn't reset ECU to see exactly what changes were to take place if any. After 15 minutes of driving the values were all around
-2.0 and after 100 miles they are all within +/-5%.So cleaning the MAF absolutely helped !
