Default Our Wrx's have the same c/d as the sleek Audis!

I just noticed that that the new Audi 2.0T Quattro has the same coefficient of drag as our "brick-like" WRX.

Taken from Car and Driver:

"DIMENSIONS
Wheelbase: 104.3 in
Track, front/rear: 59.9/59.9 in
Length/width/height: 180.6/69.8/56.2 in
Ground clearance: 4.2 in
Drag area, Cd (0.33) x frontal area (23.5 sq ft): 7.8 sq ft
Curb weight: 3660 lb
Weight distribution, F/R: 56.8/43.2%
Curb weight per horsepower: 18.6 lb
Fuel capacity: 16.6 gal "

Well that is all fine and dandy, but even though it weighs almost 600 pounds more, and has less HP and TQ (though the TQ curve looks better), it still manages to get better fuel economy. Subaru needs to hurry up and introduce turbocharged models with direct injection!

Thank you, I found it interesting, especially because the aerodynamics of the WRX are universally derided!

Totally agree with the direct injection comment. I drove a Mitsu in Europe with direct injection and I was very very impressed; kind of like having an on-demand mini turbo and the gas milage was excellent.

How does the frontal area compare?

I didn't know Audis were ever sleek...

Yep, you are correct!
From http://www.subarusvx.com/articles/article2.html:

...and the car's drag coefficient is a class-leading 0.29.

I think the overall cd has to do not only with the frontal area but with the overall effect of the rear, sides, bottom, etc. The audi might have more aerodynamic downforce for highspeed stability, leading to elevated Cds .
