Ok... they probably don't fit over 4-pot brakes then, eh?

They do fit over 4 pots, I looked them up before I bought them. You can find them pretty cheap too.

If we paint the wheels without the tires, is there a chance that when we will put the tires on, it will sratch the paint ?

Because a shop in my city told me that it would be better to put my tires before painting them. And that they don't have any problem to paint them with tires one.

Should I tell them to paint them without the tires or wait to put my tires on ?

Are you sure?! Where did you get that info? Proof/link?

I'm 99.9% sure Legacy snow flake wheels won't clear 4-pot WITHOUT any spacer.

I have 2 sets of tires on my painted wheels. When I painted them I had the tires removed and then had the wheels blasted. When the shop put the tires back on they did a great job and no scratches. Next set of tires I had put on at a different shop they chipped paint on every single wheel.

Moral of the story Yes they can scratch/chip the paint, but if they take their time and are careful it can be done with no damage as well.

Depends on what type of machine the shop uses.

I'm sure these are not the 'official' names, but a 'mag machine' the tool never touches the face of the wheel. (used on nice chrome rims and such)

While a 'laydown machine' uses a bar that rests on the edge of the wheel to remove the tire, this style will most likely scratch off the paint. There are covers you can use on the bar on this style machine that may help in not scratching, but usually doesn't work.

So, there is not many chance they scratch the wheels ? I should be just fine painting them before puting the tires ?

Search here, there's a thread for cheap wheels that clear 4 pots. A whole bunch of stock 16s fit with no spacer, and sport edition makes 15s that fit. I'm pretty sure the legacy snowflakes were listed, maybe they need a 3-5mm spacer like the 02 wrx wheels do.

Wanted to throw these pics up. These are 5Zigen GN+. They were awfully ratty, since the stock paint on them was garbage. So I had them blasted, and then repainted them myself. I'm very happy with how they came out.

What made you choose such a color? Tell me it wasn't the name.

Thought I would try yellow. And the color seemed ok to me. Just happens to be the same color as john deere yellow.

Painting my 2002 WRX rims soon. They are mint with no curbage or dings. I have Dupli Bronze and Clear rim paint. I plan to thoroughly clean with brake cleaner, simple green and prep wipes. Then I will scuff and sand and clean again.

Question: do I need to use primer or is it recommended since the rims don't have any damage to them are in in near mint condition? Or can i just paint after the sand, scuff and clean?

You can get away with just painting color, but if you want them to last for years you'll want to use primer.

I would use a primer. The duplicolor bronze is a thin paint. It shows through to the base coat pretty easily.

Thanks guys. I will get some of the sandable primer. Maybe the rustoleum brand though since it seems a lot cheaper in price.

I was looking for a bronze cooper color, didn't find what I wanted at lowes and went with the next best thing...

Rustoleum calls it Rich Caramel. IMHO its orange with gold flakes in it... look okay, but not my favorite. Will respray in the spring when its warm.

Also, I used rustoleum auto primer on the wheels, 600 and 1000 grit before the 1 very light and 3 medium coats of color went down and finished it off with duplicolor wheel clear following the instructions on the can. aside from the color they turned out good.
