Our double autocross at Hershey Giant Center is coming up soon.
Registration will close the Thursday before the event. If the event

This is a double event but you do not have to attend both days. You
may attend Saturday, Sunday or both days.

Fees will be $30 for anyone doing Myautoevents.com pre-registering
and $35 to register the day of the event. Registration and tech will

I'll be there as well as the hubby - I'll be in the Subie and he'll be in his Dodge Daytona.

EDIT: I might have a pic of you autocrossing back at the end of July - were you in the blue 2.5 RS at the Farm Show Complex run?

Also -- do they have a rain policy? I didn't see one on the Web site and it's looking more and more like rain Saturday.

No that wasn't me. My car was down with a blown motor.

As for rain.... We run in it

Cool - well, the AWDs should have a good advantage over the rest then! It'll be our first time out; I'm pretty nervous about it, but I'm also not expecting much of myself this time. What class are you in?

I will be running SM for the first time this weekend. What classes are you running? Are you guys coming for both days, or just the one?

Don't be afraid to ask for an instructor if this is your first time. It would really stink to not complete any of your runs on course just because you didn't ask for help. There are plenty of instructors who are willing to help (myself included). Also Paul S. (drives a blue STX WRX) would be a good one to ask.

My plan was to lay it out on the table that I'm a newb and let anyone who will listen know that I need all the help I can get! I've heard that sometimes you can get an instructor to ride with you; is that something that happens in this region? I will definitely look for you guys; I think I'm the only 04/05-style silver WRX coming so far (I haven't registered officially yet). I believe I will be in ESP based on the type of mods we've done (they're not much, but they go beyond the class before it). I don't remember which my husband's car qualifies for.

Yes we do allow and encourage you to have an instructor with you, especially if this is your first time.

Please make sure your car is ready for the event by checking things like your tires, wheel bearings, making sure the battery is secure, and that you don't have any large leaks. Also if you have any large speaker boxes or other stereo equipment in your trunk either A) remove it, or B) make sure it is securely fastened to something.

The day of the event your car will need to be empty of all loose items, and you will need to remove the floor mat (at least on the driver side, but might as well take all of them out, its lighter that way )

I also do tech inspection so that is why I am telling you all this. If something isn't right you will have to fix it before you are allowed to run.

Sounds great! Looking forward to both days. Do I just ask at registration for an instructor (assuming there's a check-in if you register online)?

You will check-in/sign waivers in the morning. You will ask for instructors during your heat. They will probably all be standing by the timing truck, just walk up and ask for one.

Today's the last day to register online. I've attached some course maps for this weekend if anyone needs more incentive to come have some fun. (Geoff and Alan were very creative with the naming of the corners )

Course looks like a modification of the West Course at Nationals this year.

According to Alan the center part was taken directly from the Nationals West course. So you are right

How does the heat structure work? Does everyone have to register in the morning, or is registration just kinda on the fly?

My dad is coming to check it out, since he's never seen one of these. I'm running 2nd heat and not sure when to tell him to be there by.

thanks
john

If you run 1st or 2nd you need to be there early to get registered, teched, and walk the course. Technically we do allow you to tech and register up until the end of the second heat if you are running 3rd or 4th, but I recommend you get there early to get as many course walks as possible (not directed towards you BD as I'm sure you already know this, more to the new guys).

8am: Event venue open for participants for car setup, parking, etc.
8-9:45: Tech open
8:30-9:45: Registration opens, re-opens between heats
8:30-9:45: course open for walking
9:30: Novice walk-through
9:45: Drivers (and all persons on-site) mandatory meeting
10am: First heat starts, first car off
end of event: Awards ceremony

There is usually a 15 minute break between heats for grid change over and walk-throughs. At events where time is constrained, walk-throughs may be limited to only between heats 2 and 3, at the event chairman's discretion. Hersheypark is one event where we are limited on time and may not allow walk-throughs.

Worked the third heat and got DRENCHED. Had to run immediately after - very fun course, just not so fun to be soaked and running it! Tomorrow looks like it's going to be gorgeous though.

Yeah, that was pretty ridiculous. I did laugh when he asked the guy to hold something and all he got was "I'm not your wife!"
