I've never heard of any positive experiences with RP gear oil.

Extra-S if you do not see temps below freezing, and Mobil Delvac if you do.

Stop shotgunning oil guesses at the masses and choose one that WORKS. http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=995498 has the good one. Want to use something else? Knock yourself out, but its at your own risk.

Good choice.

*******

Humor me.

Are you the original owner and if so, how often was the gear-box oil changed? If not, then how many miles have you put on the car as 2nd (or 3rd) owner and how often have you changed it?

I ask because, and respectfully, it seems that everytime I read about someone's transmission woes, that person has not changed their oil or has changed it per Subaru's recommended service schedule, which however is still inadequate because the car is driven 'hard'.

Just curious.

Front and rear gear oils: every 30 months or 30,000 miles you are to: "inspect, correct, or replace if necessary."

"When the vehicle is frequently operated under severe driving conditions, replacement should be performed every 24,000 km (15,000 miles)."

http://www.subaru.com/content/downlo...04SchedFed.pdf

As an example, I put about 10,000 miles on my car every year, but I drive it spiritedly and I auto-cross it as well. So, I change it every year, which is well before the 15,000 mile limit.

I would say that most WRX and WRX STI's are driven under "severe driving conditions", but that most do not do the minimum required maintenance.

Also, if you modify your car, you modify your service schedule intervals.
