ABS Defeat Switch
I've been thinking of adding an ABS defeat switch to my Scoob such that I can have more fun in the snow. I figured I'd do it by adding a normally-closed relay downstream of the ABS fuse that would be switched by a rocker ot button in the cab. Closing the switch would open the relay, simulating an ABS fuse blow, thus disabling the ABS system. I just wonder, though, if anybody has done this before. I'm worried that I might really piss off the ABS controller or even blow it up.

I'm not sure on your model, but on mine, there's more than 1 fuse for the ABS. The one I'm tapped into allows me to turn ABS off and on without having to cycle the ignition. I'm not using a relay, but rather a 15A switch, with a fused connector that pugs into the fusebox. I've been using it 99.9% of the time off for over a year. Every once in a while I turn it on to see if the ABS still works and it does.
I don't know what fuse to replace, but somebody else will. |

As he said, there are 2 wires. One turns on and off the Controller (I believe that is the one you have to cycle the power with, and is also attached to the "abs fuse" many people pull). The other switches the motor. There is a wire under the fuse panel that if you place the switch on it (and a 15a fuse) you can cycle the ABS w/o turning the car off and back on to turn the ABS back on (which is the case if you just place a wire where the FUSE that you can pull is. Search Scoobymods for it, thats where I got my info.
Iv had it for a while (perminant switch which allows you to turn it on and off at any time), and I dont have any problems. I keep the ABS on basically all the time except for when I race or really want to push the car, and know Im not going to run into water or lock up the brakes. |
