Default can you guys figure out what thing this is that is connected to my harness?

I've been getting CEL codes since the day I bought the car about a month and a half ago. The previous owner modded the **** outta my car and did a pisspoor job of putting the stock parts back on. THe guys at Subaru of Jacksonville have been MORE than helpful, but this time they're stumped.
The car threw a front O2 sensor in the upipe about 3 weeks ago and they replaced the sensor for free (cudos) and it worked fine until five days ago and the code went off again. But this time it was the rear o2 sensor in the downpipe.. they took a closer look and they find this baby, the only problem is they have NO idea what it is. The head technicians think it maybe a restrictor of some sorts.

Some info that you can't see from screens:
It has a red LED light that flashes when the car is turned on, but if it's running at idle or WOT, it stays at the same rate of blinking. It's about the size of one of those thick pink erasers that you use in art school (3"long, 1/2" wide, 1/8" deep). It's grounded to the bolt (seen in third pic) where the STI intercooler bolts to. It is also grounded in TWO other spots (red circles are grounded areas).

Please tell me this isn't an ebay motors +50hp restrictor mod, cuz I dont wanna lose all that HORSEPOWER OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG

ANyways, here are the pics. The first two are resized, I have full res and I can get some more..

I'm surprised the dealer hasn't voided your warranty already. I would take that thing off your car ASAP, hopefully you can fix the damaged wires caused by the splice so it isn't noticeable... then bring your car back to a dealer for the sensor problem. You might have to go to another dealer if you want the work done under warranty. goodluck!

If you bought the car from the previous owner, you might consider asking what it is. If you disconnect it, it might disable an alarm or the car. I suppose you could hook it back up if the car won't run with it disconnected, but if it is an alarm, it might disable something even when hooked back up.

If you bought the car from a dealer, they should help you fix it.

No one said you put it on. If the dealer sold it to you with that on there, they should fix it if it breaks. They might take it off for you, but if it ain't broke, they probably don't want to fix it. Someone might recognize what it is.

Looks like a active CEL bypass. Can't remember who made them though. I'm thinking Prodrive did but I could be wrong.

They were designed to fool the ECU into thinking the sensor was still there and working, whereas the restrictor mod would just disable the sensor and turn off the CEL.
