I have tried that and it does work. If you hate out hill assist, you should try bmw's. it is 10 times more intrusive. It is even on the automatics.

I do keep it in neutral until its time to go, but it will still trigger it very quickly depending on the surface. I could understand if it did it every small incline, but sometimes it happens on flat as well. Maybe it's the sensor? Who knows. Ill see how much longer I can put up with it before I take it to get looked at. I like the hill assist tho, for the exact reason I said.

Also, anyone else with an STi, when your on flat ground (nothing to do with hill assist) and you put it in first gear, can you feel it? I guess what I'm trying to say is, when I put mine into first, not only is it loud enough in cabin to hear it, but I feel it in the pedals and steering wheel coming from the rear diff. I never heard or felt this in my 06. I'm not saying this is a huge issue, but just curious as to why I feel it go into first gear so much as opposed to just going in smoothly.

You sometimes get that a**hole who thinks you have an automatic like him/her so they constantly creep up behind you. With the assist it holds you right in place when you let off the break so you can only move forward without roll (and please don't say you "like to roll back" because that's kind of tool-ish. You don't need to show off or let the world know your car is stick). The only downside that I have came across thus far, is I think sometimes the sensors may be engaged even when the car is not inclined, so when I'm actually not on a hill, it will activate and once I proceed to start moving it holds the car in place until the assist disengages and I jerk forward a little. It's a little annoying.
I've noticed that too and I thought I was crazy. I was creeping up at a light and if I let out the clutch a little without giving it gas it jerked and I figured it was an AWD thing since this is my first AWD car. My fiance asked me what did I do and I said I dunno it jerked forward for some reason. haha

I hated my 135i clutch. I had to install a modified DV because it was restricting the clutch fluid flow so if you were a "beginner" stick driver you can't mess up the clutch. The car literally wouldn't let you do anything like pop the clutch at the track on launch. After adding more boost to the car the clutch began to slip going into 3rd at the track cause it didn't like quick shifts like I was doing. My buddy has a '13 Genesis Coupe 3.8 and he said that car has the same trans setup similar to a Z4 and the car bogs a lot when you try to shift quick.

In my experience, and based on what my dealer told me, the hill assist is activated when you have the clutch depressed and are on the brake. (On and incline, of course.) Not sure if it matters that you are in gear or not?

Living in Pittsburgh, I don't mind it at all. I've been driving stick for 15 years but I still like not having to think about rolling backwards on some of the ridiculously steep hills around here.

My girlfriends 2011 Legacy has hill assist too. It's got a CVT (which is horrible) so it doesn't really seem necessary. It will roll back slightly on really steep hills but generally it seems like a pointless option. 2 pedals, 2 feet.

I, dense, I didn't even know our cars had this feature until you guys mentioned it, it really does put my mind at ease driving around here in New Hampshire and all her hills. But I definitely am realizing why it was so jerky, I thought it was me, I've gotten used to it now, but those stalls are a wee bit embarrassing,

My AP should arrive today, and I've never had one before. Are their maps on there that I can flash even without any mods on the car yet?

Stage 1 is no mods, and just a flash? So stage 2 is intake, catback and flash?

Have you really done that little of research on a 600 dollar item you bought?

Stage one is stock

Stage two is down pipe

A catback does nothing but make noise and an intake is unnecessary at these power levels. Stock airbox is good until after stage 2

No. I know what the device is capable of, I was just unsure what what "stage" consists of what. If you want me to be honest, I purchased the AP for when my car will be pro-tuned. If I didn't, and the car was pro-tuned, then every little thing I adjust would need to go back to the shop, and another pro-tune would be needed. This way, my tuner can load maps for whatever the case may be. I didn't buy it with intentions of just flashing it stage one or two on my own.

Then you wasted your money IMO. AP are great for a turn key and go stage one/two mod and user friendly functions. If you are going protune you are better off going open source. Most tuners prefer to tune open source anyway.

As for modifying your map most tuners will charge you by the hour (80ish) for street logging and adjustments if you decide to add something. They will need to "load" a map whichever way you decide to go.

this this works.

i use the hill assist all the time. this was my first stick shift so it really helped. it only holds for 1.3 seconds and if you dont think it works stop on a hill (going up or down) have it gear and ease the brake off a little then reapply, you can feel the pressure on it

Hill Assist won't engage when starting on a decline facing downhill, only on an incline. It says so right in the manual.

I noticed Hill Assist in the parking lot on a slight incline. I always notice it on my way home from work on this exit I take if I stop at that "right" spot.

Hill assist seems pretty innocuous to me, I didn't even realize I had it until I read this yesterday. I tried it today at the light on an uphill off ramp I take every day. Seemed to work fine and I didn't even realize it was there. I'm at this same spot every day and never even noticed it.

What are the situations that people find it bothersome?

Check out Clark Turner and his threads or website . Even for a stock car with an AP he has a custom map that I guess similar a protune(at least for stock) that he'll email to you. I think he says that his maps, even for a stock car, gets 20+ hp more than the maps included with Cobb. He even told me that if I am stock there would be no advantage to me coming in personally for a protune.
