Default Honda's slate for Tokyo Auto Salon includes S2000 revival, many Mugens

Really??

Autoblog: http://www.autoblog.com/2012/12/27/h...any/#continued

Quote:
Honda has pulled back the covers on what we can expect to see at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon, including what looks to be an S2000 refresh some four years after the convertible left production. The S2000 Modulo Climax is an "exhibition model" based on the old roadster, but features updated front and rear fascias as well as an interior trimmed out in black and burgundy. Beyond that, details are scarce as hen's teeth.

Honda will also show off a number of vehicles based on the N-One mini, including the N-One Modulo Style, Mugen Racing N-One Concept and an N-One worked up by the Japan Nailist Association. That last creation features plenty of rhinestone decoration. (We wish we were joking.) Mugen will also display a tarted-up CR-V Design Study as well as the CR-Z Mugen RZ: a 300-unit specialty vehicle.

Meanwhile, the manufacturer's motorcycle arm will show off the Goldwing F6B, previously seen at EICMA 2012 as well as the CB1300 Super Four Special Edition and the NC700X. The automaker will also pepper its stand with a few of its racing machines for the public to enjoy. Check out the full press release below.
Here's the press release:

Overview of Honda Exhibit at TOKYO AUTO SALON 2013 with NAPAC

TOKYO, Japan, December 26, 2012 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today announced it will participate in TOKYO AUTO SALON 2013 with NAPAC*1, which will be held from Friday, January 11 to Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. Featuring production and exhibition models of automobiles, motorcycles presenting a variety of exciting approaches to customization, power products and racing vehicles will also be presented at the Honda exhibit.

Featured automobiles will include models based on the all-new N-ONE mini-vehicle, such as the N-ONE Modulo*2 Style with its sophisticated atmosphere, the MUGEN Racing N-ONE Concept model manufactured by MUGEN*3, and a model created in collaboration with the Japan Nailist Association (JNA), showing off its custom body colors and adorned in rhinestone. Also on display will be 10 mini-vehicles full of fun and variety, including show models of the VAMOS and the ACTY TRUCK.

Honda's automobile exhibit will also show the S2000 Modulo Climax (exhibition model), an S2000-based concept model featuring cutting-edge aeroform design and a chic interior coordinated in black and burgundy. Models on exhibit will include the MUGEN CR-V Design Study, a CR-V-based concept model presenting a new design, and the CR-Z MUGEN RZ, a MUGEN vehicle sold commercially as a complete car limited to 300 vehicles.

Honda's motorcycle exhibit will present the GOLDWING F6B unveiled at EICMA 2012 (70th International Motorcycle Exhibition) in Italy in November and planned for commercial production. Customized vehicles derived from such models as the CB1300 SUPER FOURSpecial Edition and the NC700X will also be on display featuring aftermarket parts and accessories.

Honda's racing vehicle exhibit will present the RC213V motorcycle, an essential contributor to Honda's team and constructors' championships in the 2012 MotoGP, the highest class in the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix. Two cars from the SUPER GT Series, the HSV-010 GT and the MUGEN CR-Z GT, will also be appearing as well as the DOCOMO TEAM DANDELION RACING machine that won the 2012 Formula NIPPON team championship.

Dear God, Don't let them deestroy the S2000 with such an ugly fascia. It looks like the S2000 threw up in its own mouth and is trying to keep it in.

BlitZ

This car reminds of a clip in Batman with Jack Nicholson. The part where Joker asks his girl to take off her mask and show her new face to Vicki. Her face is all messed up from the chemicals.

I wonder if Honda realized what they did when they stopped making the S2000? How much $$, etc... was lost? And their reputation?

I, for one, would love the S2000 to come back, especially if the BRZ comes over as a convertible. BRZ is showing that there is a market for nimble RWDs still. And I run out of fingers and toes counting the people that had an S2000 and now have BRZs.

I would love to see it come back as well. Wasn't it price higher than the BRZ/FR-S?

It was around $35K IIRC. At that price range I'm looking at different cars. I never saw the value in the S2000, but one could argue the exact same thing about my BRZ.

Ooof. Not to mention no hardtop ruling it out for me. I guess Japan's as out of ideas as Hollywood.

You mean standard? I know you could get a removable one from honda for like a $3,000 option.

Yep. How much do you think the BRZ STi Convertible will be?

I swear i remember seeing a dealer mark up's on the last remaining s2000's that put it just north of $40,000. I just remember thinking that exact thing.

I loved my AP1, but if it's priced the same, I couldn't justify it. Excellent handler, but for that price, I need something more powerful. I got a 2000 S2000 in Spring of 2004 for low-mid 20s I believe and that was an excellent value since it only had 10K miles on it. The first year they came out, they were only like $32K I believe.

If they have any sense or soul left, they will bring back the S2000. The AP1 S2000 was an amazing drive for the money. It was simply a fantastic, focused, driver's car that still gives me goose bumps when I think of some of time I spent at the wheel of one. It was/is Honda at their best.

Wow they made that car look terrible with all the chrome and that abomination up in the grill. That's pretty impressive to take a car as good looking as the S2000 and make it look like crap. If only it had the CR-Z drivetrain, the fail would be complete.

I doubt this is the real update. It looks like its just a crappy bumper update of an AP2. Why would they release the same car after a 5 year hiatus?

Exactly. It looks like an AP2 with a horribly-shopped front bumper and a set of braces (the dental kind).

There is a lot of cars that come back to life. Regardless, this looks awful and I really hope this is not the real deal.

LOL... is everyone that gullible? That's just the old S2000 with a custom body kit.

A new S2000 would be interesting to see. I doubt it would be a "S2000" but a successor --maybe S3000 with 3.0 v6 or maybe S1600 with a 1.6 turbo

FYI: When they dropped the 2.2L in the AP2, they didn't call it an S2200.

While the extra torque was nice, I really miss that 8900 rpm redline. There was just something so psychologically satisfying about being able to almost hit 9K rpms in a such a well engineered Honda engine (It's still one of the best production engine heads to date, not to mention N/A power/liter was astundingly high as well).

The madness of being able to kiss 9K rpms in a street car, reliably.

I believe it held the NA specific output/liter record until the 458 Italia came out.

I HIGHLY doubt any kind of S2000 successor would have more than 4 cylinders in this climate (both economic and environmental over-regulation).
