That's really only about 5000 miles. Should be just fine. Just do a standard oil change with a filter.

I prefer the Rotella 5w-40 much of the rest of the forum uses. You can use just about anything that meets the requirements in the manual though. OEM or Purolator filters are good.. but again, really anything will do within proper spec. Except Fram... stay away from Fram.

He was thinking of saving money? With synthetic you don't need to change the oil for 5000 - 7000 miles. Just change oil like normal, don't worry about it, and you should be fine.

Just don't use Mobil 1. Used Mobil 1 5w30 and 10w30 and it burns like crazy for my 2002. My Subaru mechanic told me to stick with Dino or synthetic blend only. He said my car shouldnt use fill synthetic either. He said to go with 10w30 or 20w50 if my car still burn a ton of oil.

For me, the Rotella has been working great. It initially burned a bit when I first switched, but after that, the oil level never went down. Maybe very very slightly. I've checked it literally every week after finding it low after the first fillup.

So far, it's great stuff.

Mobil1 makes several good, robust oils. 0W-40, Turbo Diesel Truck 5W-40 (thicker than RT6 at all temps), and High Mileage 10W-30 and 10W-40. Subaru of America recommends synthetic in all turbos.

I know my experience is limited as I only got my WRX in July but in 4500 miles it burned absolutely no Mobil 1 5w30 and my buddy that owned it before me had no oil burning issues either.

however, I just did an oil change and went with Rotella T6 5w40. It seems fine too.

I'm using valvoline synpower 5w40 with a wix 57712 filter(one of the few aftermarket filters that actually have the 23psi rating)with no issues at all. Runs like a dream lol.

Mobil does make good oil but when I used Mobil 1 high mileage 10w-30 my car burned through like 4 quarts of oil within 3500 miles.

I've been using AMSOIL 5w-30 with my bugeye for normal and aggressive street driving with little or no burning over a 3k period. It still looks and feels good after a regular oil change interval. 10w-40 for track use I saw only a small amount of oil consumption.
