You won't be getting a new car. They'll fix it, but that's it.

Way too many ignorant kiddies on here. This isn't a broken bubblegum machine that you walk in and get an exchange. If you bitch enough SOA might give you a free oil change or extend the warranty.

Another thing OP, the short block will most likely be replaced. Don't worry about that. My buddy lost piston 4 (ringland failure) in his 2011 STi and had his short block replaced. Car runs as well if not better than it did before the replacement.

this is part of car ownership. deal with it.

they WILL figure out what the problem is, and they WILL replace it on their dime.

you won't get a new car off the bat. If you're really THAT upset, sell the car with rod knock, take the hit, and find something else.

Or trade it in to the same dealer that's doing the work. Either way I don't think they are going to rush to finish the job. Your inconvenience isn't really their problem especially if they have you a car of the lot to use while yours is being worked on since the extra time doesn't really cost them any extra money

It sucks but hopefully I'm wrong. Good luck though.

I'm having the same problem with my 09 wrx with 26,000 miles on it. I got a rod knock and they said I would be good to drive it until they have a rental car available. Well after going back and fourth complaining...they finally gave me a used car they were trying to sell. After weeks not hearing back from them I contacted SOA and complained. So now their replacing my clutch and dropping in a new short block. They are also fixing my clutch assembly that goes into the firewall. It needed to be rewelded, all for free. Hopefully I'll have my car back within the next week.

I can tell from your post that you're around 21, maybe younger. You can bitch until hell freezes over, they aren't giving you another car.

Grow up already.

From my experience with dealerships, a calm, cool, understanding customer will get much further and treated much better than an angry demanding one

Yeah keep this updated. I'm interested to see if Subaru will actually replace your car. I can understand why you would want a brand new car but if it can be easily fix by replacing a part in the engine I highly doubt they will give you a new car. The best I think they would do is extend your power train warranty for free. Did they give you free rental car to drive around while waiting for this?

There is absolutely no way they will give you a new car. If rod knock is the issue a new short block will be installed and you'll go on your merry way.

S2ktosti. I can tell by your post that your a douche..I am not even close to 21. why shouldn't I be upset if a brand new vehicle ****s the bed?. I would be naive if I just rolled over and let others dictate what can or can not happen...

Just be understanding that these things take time....it isn't like having an alternator replaced where you get the car back in an hour.

They'll fix it, and because its a brand new car with a warranty, they WILL pay for it. There is no question there.

You can be as pissed off as you want, but coming in here and thinking that subaru owes you a new car is pretty stupid. They'll fix it, but there are these things called "lemon laws" that will have to be met before they are required to replace the car.

A new short block isn't one of them. Maybe if you blow 2 more they'll discuss it.

Next time do some research on the matter and you won't look like a child.

It might have been unreasonable for him to ask for a new car but why shouldn't he? He doesn't have anything to loose there. If subaru for some reason actually agree to that then he will have a brand sparkling new car. I don't see any reason why you have to be all upset and start calling him names.

If he'd have said "I know they won't, but I'm going to see if I can get them to replace the car entirely" I would have let it sit. Instead he came in here and said he's going to demand a new car and proceeded to rant.

He's entitled to be pissed, I would be. But he's not entitled to a replacement of the entire car.

Long story short, if he'd have been more reasonable in his expectations he'd have gotten a more reasonable response.

How did you treat the car?

I'm wondering if this is a result of the crap stock tune.

my vote is crap tune. i agree with everyone about not receiving another new car.

although they will replace the shortblock with a new one thats all.

then you need to buy an accessport and get a pro tune from a reputable tuner.

and record all maintenance in a journal with receipts till warranty is over. /thread

Unfortunately I don't think that would matter if you messed with the tune. No more warranty.

I have a TP stage 1 tune and I'm hoping that nothing ever happens to my engine. I don't want to fork out 4k for a new engine should something happen and my warranty claim being denied due to a tune.

lol thats why you revert it back to stock map when you take it to the dealership. ive done this over fifty times, never had an issue.

Also some dealerships are cool about small modifications.

most of the techs in dealerships nowadays do not check the tune of a vehicle unless you mention it or its completely obvious the car is heavily modded

It doesn't matter how he words it. If this happen to me I would be fuming. Demanding a new car may not be realistic but it certainly isn't unreasonable from the OP's point of view. Why would you come on this post and insult the OP? Sounds like your the one that's 21 or younger.

On a separate note I hope everything works out OP.

I thought they have a way to tell that the ECU was flashed in the history or something. I think you might just be lucky with a dealer that's cool with ECU flash. I wouldn't risk losing warranty on a brand new car especially when you know there was a problem with it. There's no way to say the problem won't come back.

hey man, it sounds like you've got the EXACT same problem as I do. I posted it about it here http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2427992 , got a decent discussion going. My car is currently undergoing a teardown too and I'm waiting to hear back from the dealer. I haven't called SOA yet, I'm wondering if it will accomplish anything.
