Default STI 1/8th = 7.44" @ 94mph • Elusive Elevens...

Damn. I was REALLY hoping to get a chance to explore a quarter-mile ET with my setup. (Read about it here) Full-weight car. Junior claims he would drive this right into the low elevens. I believe him. What can I do?

My schedule is busy on weekends for the pending month and past, but I had one free saturday to give it a go..

Off to Island Dragway in northern, NJ for test and tune. Problem was, that is a racing event day for them. I had to pay $45 for possibly (3) runs (in their estimation). The glitches were rampant at the timing system. After spending an hour trying to fix one of the lanes, they decided not to spend any more time on it and would run all cars 1/8th mile only. Bah...!

I argued my case: In lieu of a refund, I made a deal with the manager, and he said I could get a $45 credit for a return pass if I left, but one pass would cost me $15 of that. OK, it's a deal. I was the first car down the track, and would be the first to leave.

Here's the in-cockpit vid:

Time card:

Well, according to Junior and Jimmy K, That run would have landed me solidly into the upper elevens. The MPH is a bit low, but there was a notable headwind, also.

Anyway, I spent an entire day for a decent pass, but the carrot still dangles in front of me.

Wiseco forged pistons
Kelford 272 cams, springs, retainers
H/D Cyl stud/bolts
Cosworth oil pump
AMR T60R stock location turbo (FP Red equivalent?)
AMR FMIC and ducts/hoses

Coop , thank you again and always for the kind words , it is unfortunate that you could not get a full pass in yeserday , but from the looks of things your getting the driving down pretty good , it won't be long now before you reach your goal of running in the mid to low 11 s and on your break in tune , it will be then time to turn her up and let her eat in search of that 10 sec pass - Jimmy

ummmm sharpbycoop. there is NO head wind in the 1/8th mile... lol just a little FYI

There is also a calculation for this I have seen used many times on this forum

So 7.44 (1/8th) * 1.65 (your 60ft) = 12.5et in a 1/4 mile

Absolutely NOT my friend. This pass would have been in the 11.6-11.7 range without any doubt in my mind. 12.5?? Should I show you the 14 timesplips I have where 7.62-7.7 have yielded me 12.0?

Coop is a gentleman with a passion for improving his driving skills and strives for bettering results. The calculator you used is only polluting this thread. When a mathmatical equation is configured and completed, before checking the work you have to ask yourself "does this answer make sense."

A car like this usually picks up 25-27 mph in the back half. Ok, 94 + 25 = 119.

12.5 at 119? Is that even possible if gears are not missed

At near full weight with that 60ft 11.6 would almost be an underestimation.

To further make sense of this conclusion, two gentleman this season have gone 11.3 @ 118 with slips and videos on (DOM III & FP RED)

no way jose

the formula goes like this:

1/8th ET * (1.54-1.57) = 1/4th ET
So best case scenario he would have run a 11.45
Worst case scenario a 11.68

But you are right about the wind

my mistake. but atleast i was close with the formula

the wind is 100% accurate though. no head wind in 1/8th mile

Thanks guys, for the interest. Yes, it's all speculation. Educated speculation. (Thanks, Mike for the support).

Juan: Jeez, I wasn't thinking I was even that fast (theoretically). Excellent!

Postulation: In regards to a headwind, the flag was running straight back at the tower. 5-10mph wind? At almost 100mph there *may* be some significance.

I daresay if the wind was a tail at the same intensity, the MPH may have been 96-98 mph. It's not like the laws of physics go away for the eighth, they just aren't as affected.

Juan, you have to remember that your car + you = 500+ lbs lighter than Coop and his car. Not to mention your 5 speed gearing. The trap isnt low, especially for a break in tune. Where you will do about 117 in the 1/4, Coop would have gone 119-121.

Hi Juan,

I've always been satisfied with AMR's T60R. With the addition of the cams, it's pretty mild under 4k. Not a pig, but less responsive than OEM. All that changes once the power starts to build, as well you know. I was describing to my non-driving wife how I have to modulate the throttle by letting off as the rpms and boost start acquiring.

Anyway, it's a sleeper in many regards. Cool!

I am tired of reading these threads with guys trapping 120+ I am so jealous of the topend, I don't know how much longer I can hold off from upgrading from the VF39. So sick.

Congrats.

Without a doubt was a mid 11sec pass. Probably in the low 120s. Congrats.

Congrats Coop and great driving..
I'm sure the 1/8th MPH will come up on a full pass.. Even if you let off a split second before the 1/8th the ET will not suffer as much as the MPH.
