Default AMS Prototype Intake manifold Testing....FINALLY! lol

Final Testing Complete!!

Prototype sheet metal version testing:

2007 STI
AMS Rotated mount V-band GT30R turbo kit
AMS Stage one shortblock
Stock heads
Stock cams
AMS FMIC
AMS Exhaust
Deatschwerks 880's
Boost: 24 psi tapering to 22 psi
Open ECU tuning
Timing untouched between passes

MAF sensor shows a 20-30 grams/sec more air flow!

Virtually ZERO loss in spool even on this small turbo at this boost level
15-20whp gains after 5000 rpm!!!!

Test 2!

Some more testing for you guys

Well we had to test for 08 fitment as well so we decided to do a HP test as well

Test car: 2008 Subaru Sti
AMS 750R turbo kit (.63)
Maddad 3" catback
AMS FMIC with 2.5" piping and Tial BOV
AMS TGV delete
Deatschwerks 1000cc injectors
Custom AMS fuel system with inline walbro 255
Grimmspeed Port and polish stock header with Grimmspeed crossover pipe
Grimmspeed plug & play boost control solenoid
AMS Small Battery Kit
AMS Opensource Flash

Boost: 20 psi (both tests)
Fuel: 93 Octane pump gas

As you can see the gains are great! on only 20psi of boost with a modest turbo we are seeing over 25 hp gains. Again spool is barely effected and power is made from the second the car gets into boost and beyond.

I will keep you posted as progress is made regarding production and cost

Considering the HP level this test was done on we are VERY excited with the results and cant wait to continue testing on larger more powerful platforms.

In any even here is the before and after chart and also some eye candy

Prototype cast manifold (final product will be black powder coated or possibly wrinkle red powder coated):

More Testing!!

At Forged Performance, we take delta testing very seriously. I personally handle all aspects of the process to ensure a true and accurate comparison. Results can easily, yet often, become unintentionally skewed in either direction. But our objective is to give you all a true no-BS assessment of any part that we test.

That said, here is our testing methodology.

1) E85 Fuel and Stock Engine (Baseline was 196whp on our dyno)
2) Boost pressure reduced to 23psi to insure a very stable AF ratio while not overwhelming our single fuel pump.
3) Same day test 6 hours apart and vehicle was not unstrapped or moved from the dyno. We had to do quite a bit of modification to make this prototype fit, but of course production versions will be bolt on like all AMS products.
4) Ambient temp was within 3 degrees F variation in our shop, through the dyno testing process.
5) Ramp rate (load on the rollers) was reduced to 140 in order to reduce the effects of heat soak, which can mislead the results.
4) Dyno Fan running for all runs.
5) 2 second "dwell" or hold time before releasing the dyno. For reference, the dwell time can alter the boost ramp up as it pre-heats the turbo.
6) The lowest and highest dyno numbers are rejected for both plenums as well as any unusually high or low numbers.
7) AF and boost was equalized within .2 psi and .2 AF ratio points for a true apples to apples comparison of the gains. Boost curve is posted for reference so there is no dispute on boost levels run.

That said, the results were outstanding at such low boost pressure. We achieved a peak of 20whp and 28lb/ft trq. More impressively, there was virtually no loss of power or trq anywhere on the curve, and many areas showed gains of 30whp and 40lb/ft! So in addition to a notable peak power improvement, we saw a tremendous improvement in area under the curve throughout the power band.

So far, we are very pleased with the AMS Protoype STi plenum. We feel the gains will be even more impressive as we raise the boost further after our FP S2 stroker race engine goes in. We will be working with AMS closely on some additional changes and modifications to make this plenum the best out there.

And the best part......we have a video coming soon!

Do you think a VF39 on racegas will benefit from this intake manifold?

Probably not I just had to ask

Would larger cams unleash the power of this manifold?

Perhaps I just have a dirty mind, but all I saw were two butt cheeks at first, then the part made sense.

Porsche has something similar, twin plenums with a the TB entering the "balance" tube. Great work!

Thanks guys, Larger cams could definitely produce more power with this setup.

The IC piping is 2.5"

considering the amount of air this turbo is currently flowing I would think a VF39 on race could certainly benefit from this piece.

am I mistaken or the TGV is deleted on this manifold? Is it like the "long runner" of the magnus intake manifold?

That is flippin sweet looking! Those welds look beautiful!

Is it a larger bore or better flow that accounts for the gains? Perhaps a combination of both? I'd like to see it reversed
