front o2 sensor question
when i bought an o2 sensor i decided to lengthen the harness, i cut it and used the same type of wire to lengthen it. i soldered it thinking that was the way to do it. and ever since then my car misfires and hesitates when i step on it. what i would like to know is if soldering the wirez messed it up

It shouldn't do any harm. I assume you are not getting a CEL light that could help out with this trouble.

how much did you lengthen it? are you positive it was the same size? you may have increased the resistance in the signal wire. If you did this would lead to incorrect O2 readings going to the ECU resulting in incorrect A/F ratios. Did you shrink tube, or E-tape the connections? and did you do a good job soldering them?
Just having soldered the wires shouldn't cause these problems... The O2 sensor sees ~800°F when driving, so it's almost impossible for you to have over heated the components. |

Why would you have wanted to lengthen it in the first place? The sensor harness uses a special type of wire, chances are when you tried to solder to it the resulting connection wasn't very good. The 02 harness should never be spliced or cut into.
The fix here will be to throw that sensor away (along with whatever you spent on it), and buy and install a new one without trying to modify it. |
