Default Rally Armor Mud Flap Question

I know there is a billion mud flap threads but....

I posted this comment in the "best mud flap for winter" thread thats in here.

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else or am i just a dummy?

I was backing into my moms driveway the other night. She lives in a town house with a one car garage. Its not super tight, but its no parking lot either. My left rear tire catches the edge of a curb leading into her driveway and presses the mud flap against my tire and the curb. POP!!!! ripped the whole flap and bracket clean off still intact together! ****ing installed them 2 weeks ago. The metal screws ripped right through mounting points on the bumper and wheel well.....

Now that i had to chance to look at it in the day light, only the bottom screw ripped through the plastic mounting point of wheel well. The top mounting point, the mud flap pulled out over the plastic washer. The bottom underneath mounting point, the push clip just popped out without breaking.

I put it back on but now its definitely not has strong as it was before, so that one flap is basically just ****ed.

So moral of the story, dont back into a hard stationary surfaces with madflaps on!

I'm pretty sure there's a warning on the install instructions that clearly states this could/would happen if you backes up to a curb. Or did you not read that part?

Rally Armor
My bad.

I read it as you might of had a different brand, and if RA mudflaps would suffer the same fate.

New fender liner's are quite cheap usually... (~$38/per for GD) so that will refresh your liner mounting points.

I know this may be frowned upon but I'm a big fan of bolting or screwing parts right into your fenders or bumpers. Be aware if you do that and hit a stationary object again it won't just rip the clips off but also the bumper too. If you don't though it will be much sturdier, hope that helps.

Yep, I did the same thing with my rally armors. Backing into the driveway I ripped one off. It pulled the bumper down enough to break the mounting tab where the bumper mounts to the body on my jdm bumper. It sucked. I fixed everything with some 1/4" fender washers.

You should get the urethane flaps next time. They are super forgiving against this stuff. It seems inevitable that this could happen again or catch in the snow when backing.

Ouch! Really? Well, I hereby retract my statement. This is the first I've heard of the urethane flaps doing this.

Of course they will rip off. If you press them between an object and wheel, and the wheel tries to pull down on them (driving backward) something is going to give. Watched it happen to a friend as he backed into a curb.
