We're happy with the way the car performs on the dyno as well as on the street and testing out a 2.0 liter was refreshing, because we do so many 2.5 liter cars at our facility. We look forward to finishing a few items and getting it out on track asap!

Ravel36 - What gear was that dyno pull in, and which WG actuator are you using?

NICO Turbine - I was telling a friend about this car the other day, absolutely love it!!

I believe 4th gear and the standard wastegate actuator that came with the turbo.

I'm shooting for 400-450hp at the wheels on pump 91. Initially I was thinking I'd do the BW S200SX-56mm since the numbers that people were reporting it should be capable of were perfectly in line with this goal. However, looking through this thread I'm not really seeing any dyno results that substantiate those claims. Unfortunately, it seems like the 300 series way overshoots those numbers. Sure, I'd like 500whp, but it seems like at that point I'm going to start breaking parts that I'd rather not break.

Here's the mod list:

2004 STi
2008 EJ257 block (stock bore)
2008 STi crank
ACL main/rod bearings
ARP rod bolts
CP pistons
Manley rods
Cometic headgaskets
ARP headstuds
Crower valves/springs/retainers
Heads P&P'd

Blitz turboback
Grimmspeed P&P'd exhaust manifold
Morrocco's BW rotated kit

ID1k's with Boomba fuel rails
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Aeromotive fuel regulator

I think that's everything that matters at all.

It'll be dyno-tuned on Cobb with speed density.

Any additional input (firsthand experience would be wonderful) would be very much appreciated. I'd like to purchase the turbo and kit this week so that I can get rolling on it before the race season is over. Ideally I'd like to stay away from methanol, though if that's a necessary evil for this goal, I guess it is what it is.

Cheers,

-Steve
This is similar to what I am doing ....I already have the turbo, and cams and I will use water/meth to get me to 450+whp ...I think the turbo will do it ...

Low end seems really weak on that dyno for a 7163. Going to just blame it on the dyno operator though setting the pull duration too short and starting at 3k rather than 2k.

Possibly, I wouldn't know. But drivability is great, boost comes on strong once the turbo starts to spool. I have only hit 19psi once in a third gear pass, I had to grip the steering wheel pretty hard because you can fill the chassis twist when the boost comes on crazy, but awesome. Puts that ear to ear grin on your face.

Maybe i missed them, but is there any EFR6258 dyno numbers on a 2.0L in here?
fwiw my motor is the usdm 2003 WRX variant.

I'd like to get a sense of the general characteristics related to spool for this turbo, on this motor. When is peak poost? how steep is the curve, etc etc. I suppose a dyno plot would be ideal.

Thanks!

evans-tuning.com in PA did 2 identical cars (WRX 2.0L) with stock motors and identical setups except 6258 vs 6758 was the only difference. same engine setups, same dyno, same timeframe. this is the first stock location EFR kit this tuner has done, he said "that 6758 turbo is awesome. Seriously. I am impressed"

EFR6258 on stock EJ20 longblock, 93octane pump gas @22psi from Evans-Tuning:

EFR6758 stock EJ20 longblock, 93octane pump gas @22psi:

both of these setups have the soft "mid boost" wg actuator, since they are 93 octane pump gas builds only. I recommended to install the stiffer wg spring and check back

edit: subiefest is this weekend, we are doing a big sale on these subaru EFR setups - and free ride alongs from Mark Jager at the event for anyone who can make it

Looks like the quicker spooling 6258 would be more up my alley.
How would the 6258 graph look with the if it was the 0.64 A/R IWG option?
Sorry, i don't understand enough about EWG/IWG to know what that would mean.

The subiefest sale is one reason i'm here looking for more data.

I appreciate you guys having a meaningful sale, not just "save $50 on our kit!"

6258 0.64 a/r IWG is exactly the setup shown in the top graph - it is a great performing setup that spools earlier than stock and delivers a broad powerband. Mark Jager ran that turbo in his street class time attack car previously with excellent results

I guess I was more looking at an EFR with an older style compressor housing. I'm pretty sure the EFR's all have anti-surge housings, at least they look like it. My main goal is a good bit of a power increase with as close to stock (VF-34) spool and transient response as possible.
Hey guys,

I'm in the process of building my engine with a 83/74 1.05ewg. I like the sound of my blitz bov and was willing to go raceport bov.

So, I'm wondering if anyone tried to run the EFR turbo with and WITHOUT external BOV.. did you lost lot of response/transient spoolup ? ( I'm mainly wondering how effective if the internal BOV actually)

I'm running a haltech with map based.

thanks guy!

I only run the internal BPV, it makes the engine bay much simpler and saves weight.

I also only run the internal. I have never had an external so I have no real world experience with them, but fwiw the high boost WG actuator with my 7163 works perfectly. I have my set up posted here.

that's the thing, I like the ricey surge sound of a nice discharge of air (oh well! ), but if I'm going to loose performance by doing so, I won't go external BOV.

I.E: With the internal BOV, if you can get instant transient response of 5-10psi and with external, you get an instant 5-7psi. I'm willing to accept this performance drop. However, if by going external, you loose 100% of the transient response then its not worth it.

Thanks for your help! I read lots of your threads but never post

I tested the proto-type Turbosmart 2-port IWG actuator on my EFR6758. It worked great, should be the actuator that comes with the BW turbos IMO.

Just purchased a BW SX-E 8376 for my 06 WRX. deciding on hot side right now. I have a few options.

.63, .70, .88 T3 open depending on who it's from

.88 T4 open

.91 T4 divided. With a spool valve, and if the spool valve deems not good on our platform, twin scroll.

Leaning toward the .91 divided.
