Default Snow + Curb = -_-

Ok I am going to get straight to the point on this. I like alot of you there have been looking forward to snow for quite some time in NOVA. So having an 05 WRX, with snow tires, I wanted to see just how much the car could take (handling wise).

The car handled like a champ, so not being content I wanted to see how far I could take it. Empty parking lot donuts etc. Long story short, I lost control over the car and went over a curb. I was going 25+ and hit from the front passenger wheel and carried speed all the way off the curb.

From what I can tell, the only damage I could find was the splitter, that ripped right off of the car. Wheels, tires, all other body work looked fine.

Since I have BC BR on, I am worried about my coilovers. I drove it a bit after, and everything felt normal.

What other damage should I look for? What should my next steps be? Should I take it to Mach V or any other shop to have them look it over.

Yes I now I am stupid, but I am looking for any type of help/advice I can get.

-Ryan

sorry to hear that man, would probably head to a shop to make sure there is no damage done if you aren't quite sure what to be looking for.

I hit a pothole the size of a curb hidden under 16 or so inches of snow going about 10-15mph in New Hampshire a few years ago.

Cracked wheel, bent tie rods and control arm.... Yeah I'd put it on a lift and get a good look at it man.

I will get it to a shop ASAP. I drove it a couple of more times today, all seems to be normal. The only thing that is a little different is the ride height. It looks to be a tad bit higher.

But that could be me being extra critical. Or it could be the front splitter being off.

Keep driving it without having it checked out and you're only making a potentially unrecognized problem worse.

This. I would be getting it checked out, and at the least re-aligned, as soon as possible. How high was the curb?

Look your wheels over good for bends, cracks, and the tires for any damage.
If you're not up to checking stuff out under the car yourself, then take it to a professional and have them do an alignment ASAP.
If everything checks out, then consider yourself lucky!
Did you hit it straight on or more from the side?

Or stick with an established and well respected shop like machV. Either way.

Are you implying that Bilbo Automotive is not respected or established, have you been there... Heard anything negative about them?
I could list a page full of complaints I have heard about Mach V over the years. Doesn't mean they suck. But in my opinion, your statement is a tad silly, although I understand what you're trying to say.

OP get your car looked at somewhere convenient - you're just looking for damage, not getting an engine tuned... I'm sure you know enough about your car to tell if a shop is trying to screw you.

No, I'm saying he's better off taken it to a well respected shop than taking some internet guys opinion to go to a never heard of shop. Believe what you want about MachV but I completely trust my car with them and that's worth paying a few extra bucks to me.

Or you can go to Carlos's oil change shop in Manassas and hope everything works out.

whereever you take it, im sure the alignment is knocked out so by getting it on the alignment machine you can tell if components are bent if you cant tell by doing a visual check. sometimes components can LOOK ok but are actually bent..

and just for the record i have a brother who has taken his car into curbs more then one occasion ill just say and he has bc brs on his car and after all the beating they have been through, they have outlasted the control arms and knuckles hes gone through..

outlasted meaning he is still running the same coilovers and they are functioning fine.

If Mach V cant get me in, I will take it to shop (merchants, bilbo etc) and get it checked out by them.

Then after taking a look at it myself and hearing there assessment, I can make a decision from there.

Here's a thought....OP already mentioned Mach V. Stick with what OP wanted.

Kat- you're not helping that shop any by coming off pushy and defensive. OP has your recommendation, getting argumentative over it isn't doing any good. I've never heard of them but your attitude alone makes me not care. You're pushing a new shop (new to here) among a tight-knit group of enthusiasts that are quite loyal to their shops. Accept that not everyone is going to jump because you say you have a good experience. Every shop has bad stories, bet there's some about Bilbo too. Dan's got a proven track record here, like most of the NASIOC vendors. Bilbo doesn't, at least not on NASIOC. That's what he meant about a respected and established shop.

If you want your shop to have that chance, you need to chill.

Moving on.

How do you side swipe a curb at 25 with no wheel damage?

I am just as surprised as you by this no wheel/rim/tire damage.

Just the lip, maybe I wasn't going 25 , but I slid , and went over the curb. And it was enough to make me concerned.

Fingers crossed hopefully the lip is the only loss.

This. Said better than I could.

For the record - I had no idea that a Carlos worked at the shop. That's just a strange coincidence.

OP - When are you getting it looked at? Curious to know the outcome.
