Default Romraider on a tablet?

Has anyone heard of a tablet or pad or device that supports romraider/ecu flash ??

That would be awesome to be able to mount a tablet and be constantly monitoring in that fashion. I think I have even seen a dash kit per say that replaces your radio space with a slot for a tablet/iPad.

iPad doesn't have USB and I doubt the operating system of any of the other mainstream tablets would support it. However, the upcoming Windows 8 tablets or some of the more expensive current tablets running Windows may work.

Gigabyte makes a Windows tablet. I believe its the 1080? I was looking into them for a while. I use a winXP netbook for now. Seems to be less problematic than W7

Why not just go old school and use a car PC? What would you gain from permanently mounting a tablet in the car versus just using a cheapo car PC with a touch screen? It would let you use Win XP/7 like normal, not only could you log but you could use it to flash the ECU, etc.

You still gotta load the maps, transfer logs, review logs and make new maps, etc. and you'll need another device to do all that if you're using some embedded car PC. It's much easier to have a single device you can use wherever you are, at or away from your car. And a tablet is a lot more portable and convenient than a laptop in a number of cases.

i use a good laptop right now. Yea it works great. I just think it would be awesome/convenient/advantageous to be able to have a tablet right in front of you to monitor at any time. I do a lot of 20 hour plus trips and it would be pretty cool to be able to monitor my engine that simply.

In addition you could pay the monthly fee for WiFi and have google maps and music and unlimited resources at your fingertips. seems like it would be pretty ****ing cool.

Try googling buyadroid

They have a a windows xp tablet . with usb input. It should run RR.

You could buy one of those Ipad type windscreen mounts aswell.

Let us know how this works out.

as long as you just logging via RomRaider it doesn't sound like that bad of an idea... but to "try" and push ecuflash on there and read/write to your ECU.... minus well tell Tactrix your going to be sending them your ECU soon to unbrick it... I have enough anxiety reflashing cars with a normal pc... just my 2 cents!

If an Accessport can flash an ECU, and a virtual machine can flash an ECU, I'm not so worried about flashing via a dedicated PC that just has a touchscreen instead of a keyboard

Not sure if you would be interested in going this route but google double din carputer. I looked at doing this exact thing with my 02. If you look you will notice they make a double din windows based computer with USB, wifi, bluetooth(nice for tethering to share cell phone Internet) and basically functions like the netbooks. They also make stand alone mini towers that you could mount under the seat or somewhere else hidden and a double din screen that mounts up to replace the radio so basically like a desktop you'd normally have. Hope this helps it would be more functional or at least I think so then a tablet.

I was just thinking about getting a tablet to replace my laptop for the car. This thread has been over 6 months old and a lot of new technology has come out. Anybody have success logging with RR and using ecuflash using an android tablet?

Good luck getting EcuFlash to run on an Android tablet... It's a Windows app that needs its own drivers, so you'd need a good virtual machine for your Android. It might be doable but I haven't heard of anyone doing it yet.

I use a CarPC and I transfer logs and tunes with a USB drive keychain, or via WiFi. I do almost all of my tuning and log analysis on a desktop system with big monitors, and then do the flashing and logging with the CarPC. Plus it does GPS and it has a nice digital gauge app. I have a Tactrix cable running under the dash and under the carpet so I never mess with cables anymore. I'm really happy with this setup.

That said, there should be lots of Windows 8 tablets on the market soon, if not already, and the ones with x86 processors (Intel or Intel-compatible) should all work well.

Just stay away from the "Windows RT" versions. They use ARM processors, so they won't run EcuFlash.

I think you mean ARM not AMD. AMD is x86 based as well.

Yeah, ARM. Thanks.

I was an AMD fanboy many years ago. Apparently my fingers remember those days all too well.

To tell the truth...it should not be hard to compile for the ARM RT tablets, all the coders have to do is run it through there ARM compiler, especially since RT has almost 99% compatible USB to the x86 versions....it would be a coup if they would do it.....

Regarding the "its too much trouble to transfer files between a car PC and a homepc" issue. Assuming you have WiFi and basic knowledge of the windows home networking environment....

Setup a command line batch file to transfer and sync the files with nothing but A double click. Or better yet I'm sure there's even a solution or two out there that would automatically sync files whenever your car is in range of your network. doesn't get any easier than that!

I've just been convinced that my next spare mother board isn't going to be another htpc... lol

Personally, I'd rather find a small tablet with a USB port that could be formatted to run Ubuntu and just mount it in the glove box. That way you can log when you want and have it out of the way when you have passengers.

I've seen a lot of people mention Windows 8. Have you guys actually tried using it? It's not quite as intuitive as you'd expect.

I got my brother in law an Acer netbook for christmas running windows 8 specifically for this purpose. He's running RomRaider and Ecuflash with no issues whatsoever. The computer has awesome specs too! 320 gb HDD, 4 gb ram, processor is a little puny at dual core 1.8 ghz processors. Overall if a million times better then waiting around for the right tablet and a quarter of the price (was about $300 new).

p.s.- windows 8 is pretty sick

How about just being able to log on an android phone using 4.1.1? I think it would be really convenient to keep a tactrix cable in the glove box and when I wanted to monitor or log something, just plug it into my phone.

Nice to know there is an adapter. Does it require a driver or is it simply a form factor change?

No driver is needed. My cousin came over a few weeks ago and brought the adapter cable and a PS3 remote; plugged it all together and started using the controller to navigate the phone and then play some games. It was all pretty cool and got my thinking about using the cable to plug my tactrix into my phone to log. So here we are... How do we do it?
