Default Is GMR open?

I thought someone mentioned that Glendora Mountain Road was closed due to a fire a while back. Is it open now? I'll be in that area tonight and might take some friends up there.

Wagon, what time of day were you up there? I was gonna go after midnight sometime. I don't have a front plate either tho...

Anyone have other suggestions for that area?

Not quite closed, but I would be QUITE wary of going up there. You get caught speeding up there your car may, or may not, be towed & impounded at the descretion of the deputy that pulls you over. Some sort of "special enforcement district" BS. You have the local state rep. to thank for budgeting the $$$ to allow the San Dimas Sheriff to run speed enforcement through the night.

I was up there at like 1-2 am. the cop said "tell your friends that ill pull you guys over for anything and everything". I was surprised that he only gave me a ticket for no front plate but i didnt get one for for modified exhaust or anything like that. I heard the cops even drive up there now

Question How 'bout now?

I'm assuming gmr is open now, but the special enforcement dealio must suck...

Is there always a man up there stalking speeders?

I was thinking of doing a Sunday A.M. run, but I would feel nekid w/o a radar detector if the man is laying in wait...

Shhhh...if GMR is publicised even more people will go there, which will only draw more cops to the area. It's a pity they've become bitchy about people up there, apparently they used to be pretty cool about everything.

I was talking to a buddy that went up there last week and he said it was still closed. I've been pretty bummed out because I had made weekly trips up there a pretty regular event up until that stupid fire happened (I've only run the road about 6 times). I miss the people and I miss the road, but there are other options and there are some other very cool roads. I was skeptical of this at first, but the need to drive has motivated me to find new places and TRUST ME, they are out there..

Although I do miss seeing the people I'd regularly see up there and the little sense of pride when I'd run as fast as and sometimes faster than the quicker people that have been going there for a couple years.

I really do miss it

Default Fire And Rain

Maybe the DOT is gonna keep GMR closed through the winter 'cause if the fire burned near the road, the rains will cause mud and rocks to fall onto the road everytime it rains. So they'll just close it until spring when the rainy season will have finished, and then just clean it all up at once.

I don't know... just speculating, but it'll be missed like you say...

I got the same words from Mr.cop. Gave me no licence plate ticket without asking about the exhaust too. Gotta be the same cop.
He asked me repeatedly how I found out about GMR and which friend told me about GMR.
It was just before the fire and he was sitting at entrance of the road and I couldn't escape. I've never seen cop up on the mountain though.

Default GMR is closed

Hi Guys, I ran GMR some times twice a week until the closure. I was on GMR on Friday. I was escorted by a Forestry cop so that I could take some pics of the location were a fellow I-club member was busted for reckless driving. I was in my Tahoe as my beloved Rex was in the body shop. Ran into a stove top on the I-10 and shattered my headlight and front bumper. Anyway I did not let the cop know that I was a regular speed freak up there. The Cop said that GMR will probably be opened up by the County some time in March depending on the amount of rain. From what I saw, the hillsides are very unstable and there is rock and gravel every where. Adios.

Reckless driving? Rick, ya got me curious since I run canyons every once in awhile... What was our fellow i-clubber doing, or what does the man claim our fellow i-clubber was doing, to be charged w/reckless driving?

Reckless on GMR

Per the LACS's report and with the I-club member's permission, please enjoy this excercise in creative writing:

While on routine patrol of the Angeles Nat'l Forest, we were traveling S/B on GMR. We suddenly observed a Blue Subaru WRX traveling N/B. He was traveling approx. 60 MPH. The safe or Prima Facia speed limit is 30 MPH. It was in a corner that we first observed the vehicle, and it was in a four wheel drift and accelerating out of a corner. Our intent was to site the driver for unsafe speed, 22350 CVC. Suddenly another Subaru WRX came racing around the corner. It was white and had no front license plate. The vehicle was traveling at approx. 60 to 65 MPH. He was on a left hand turn, in a four wheel drift. He had lost control of the skid and was accelerating hard to try and correct. He had crossed over the double yellow line and now was headed straight at us. Seeing us, he braked hard to try and correct. This further aggravated the vehicle's instability as he forced a sudden shift of weight from the rear to the front of the vehicle. This caused the rear end of the vehicle to swerve in a fish tail motion. We quickly steered our vehicle off the road and avoided the collision.

This Deputy has been reading too many Road & Track articles. I have never read a report so detailed and graphic. We are fighting this one! I say if WRX driver was able to recover from a four wheel drift and avoid hitting a Expedition on a narrow mountain road, give him an ATA BOY!

There are just too many kids who don't know what they are doing up there. For me, GMR is just a memory.

hello,
i live in glendora. and yes the gmr is open--but not for the public (or through traffic). for those trying to get on the road at night, do it during the week. most of the time, if not all the time, gmr is closed after 10pm on weekends, including friday. anyways, have fun storming the hill, and don't get killed.
