We had a Legacy RS, 5 speed dog box. Kept breaking front crown wheel and pinions. A common occurrence the faster you go. It also depends how hard you are going to drive it and how much horsepower.

The setup we had in our GC8 (and later in the legacy) was an 06 6 speed with DCCD with a plated front LSD and motec centre diff controller. Worked brilliantly
I will be using the 5 speed for the time being and I a really excited to try out the Modena front diff.
Getting the car going this year is priority then I will look into changing things up in the drivetrain once I know exactly what I want to change.

Ran into a few snags over the past week. I do have to move the harness bar up as mine is a little low. Still find it interesting that it would be fine for the WRC but not for Rally America.

I also am going to add a few more bars from the bottom of the main hoop to meet with the rear back stays and some supports for the rear strut towers. I just received some 1.25 Dom tubing for those.

I am also off to get some steel for a few gussets I would like to add, and look for someone with in town that can get me material for polycarbonate windows. Not so much to save weight, but to make getting in the back to weld/service struts easier.

The only other snag I have is with the new pedal box my throttle cable isn't long enough. What is the longest throttle cable subaru makes? Or does anyone have a custom throttle cable solution?

Do class rules allow for a dog box?

No waiver needed to race with NASA.

Like Jard said, if my coefficients aren't quite there there are NASA events that I would love to do. Idaho being the major one, but I am a little behind schedule to make that...

Picked up this Modena Front diff this weekend courtesy of Guard Transmission.

Old harness bar is cut outNew harness bar showed up tonight. Any words of advice for fitting it? and any recommendations for cleaning up the weld remnants from the old bar? Can I just grind them completely down?

One other cage question, have any of you that have built rally America cages used a different diameter bar for supports between strut towers etc?

Few other little updates include swapping over the final drive to 4.11, Stilo WRC intercom arrived, and I have made headway on the pedal box mount.

New goal is a hill climb in Grand Junction at the end of September. That should be easily attainable at this point.

Been working hard on the car. The last big main thing I have to worry about is a new driveline and I am considering having a one piece unit made.

I replaced the harness bar. I raised it up about 4 inches and with the seats installed it brings the angle of the harness to 3&5* for driver/co-driver.
[IMG][/IMG]

Made a battery mount behind my seat.
[IMG][/IMG]

New pedal box mount is built and in the car but I don't have pictures.

Looking to mount the hydraulic handbrake in the next day or two and this is about the only place that doesn't interfere with the shifter and feels good. It looks close to the navi seat but it's not bad. Anyone see anything I am not with this placement?

Quick question on seam welding. Those who have done it, do you do the fender seams inside the car and in the wheel well or is it one or the other?

Did you remove the cable parking brake?

Well I removed everything for prepping the car, and as it sits now the cable and the hydro brake won't fit together. The hydro is lockable so I am considering leaving the other out but looking for input on that as well.

The pic above was just a test fit for the seats and the new harness bar and to get an idea of where the hand brake might work.

"Parking Brake" is an item on the tech inspection form. I'm not sure if locking the hydraulic brake in place counts, but I know that for DMV inspection, the parking brake must be separate from the hydraulic system.

I kept my cable brake for ease of use. Maybe someone else can chime in that is either a scrutineer or a competitor that has done what you plan.

Ok I spent some time working on this today and hopefully a scrutineer will chime in. <br />
I added some bracing to the rear strut towers. Now this isn't technically part of the cage (correct?) and I used 1" x 0.095". I should be ok right?

I don't remember seein a hydraulic and mechanical parking brake in the top cars. I reinstalled the factory one tonight but packaging the hydraulic unit in with it will be a major chore and its going to be in someone's way I feel like.

I always thought rally cars had to be street legal to go on public roads between stages. Therefore wouldn't you need to have both?

Maybe I'm wrong though!

Street legal - yes.

Does your state's inspection require a cable parking brake?
Would it pass inspection at some random shop without it?
Does tech actively look for it at events?

These are the questions you need to answer. I know they sell hydraulic handbrakes that will lock in position and act like a parking brake. I also know I've seen rally cars without the cable brake. Last, but not least, I'm a fan of redundancy in my rally car.

Here is the only interior pic I have handy right now. I put the handbrake to the left of the shifter. Not ideal, but it was the best location for me. Besides, I don't really ever use it....

Thanks sureshot! I agree redundancy is a good thing and would like it for that fact. The brake I bought does indeed lock.
And I am from Wyoming... What's an inspection? we've never had them and probably never will.

Do whatever is easier for you and don't worry if you can't get everything. As much as reasonable with the front towers helps in the long run, integrating the front strut towers into the cage is good too.

Hand brake mount is welded to the tunnel and the interior is painted. I ca start reassembly now while I wait for my new struts.
