Default looking to do a real motor build

hi I'm looking to do a motor build for my car. I am going to tear down a ej205 and I'm looking for maybe a suggested list of parts. Im looking for around 400whp but i want to run it safe and that is why I'm here. I have the mechanic ability to do the build but I'm not sure what parts to pick. This is strictly motor i haven't decided on a turbo yet. I would rather have stronger internals so i don't have to worry about it blowing up on me because the motor can't handle the power. thanks for all the help in advance. ps sorry still trying to figure out how to navigate this site and where to post stuff.

I think you're better off going to a local shop that specializes with motor builds for your car and ask them. I'd even say to get a tuner and let him know your power goals and what you will need along with a budget.

Or do some looking around here^ Probably should move this thread there anyways.

I'm talking about the hole nine yards, crank, heads, cams, valves, intake man, rods, valve springs, the budget isn't a big deal since i don't have a time frame, i daily my car for now until the new motor is built and ready to be dropped in

Your time frame doesn't really matter. What you want to do is going to cost you money - lots of it. If you spend it all at once, or over time, it's still the same amount of money, so you'd better have a budget in mind.

If you're daily driving the car until your monster motor gets done (with no particular time frame) you'd better figure maintenance on what's in there now into your budget as well.

I've seen too many projects with no budget and no time frame become nothing more than bottomless pits that someone tries to fill with money. Eventually the money runs out, and the pit is still there.

I vote not putting the value of your car into a motor build.

this. especially since OP seems to not know what he/she's doing.

you have a clean room where you can build a high horse power motor? how much experience do you have?

its going to cost more than you think, and require work you most likely won't be able to properly do.

I'd start by dropping $300 on some torque plates that you are only going to use once or twice.

C/N: Have a known builder build it.

Since you state you have mechanical ability and are confident you can build your own motor. Im assuming you can:
Deck your own heads / check to see if they are warped
Hone cylinder walls, machine to spec for new pistons
check all the clearances, set gaps
as well as have all the tool, equipment and proper work space to do so.

If you answered no to any of them, take it to a builder. Judging by your lack of knowledge on which parts to purchase, im also going to assume you should take it to a person who can build it properly.

Are you going to tune this vehicle yourself? If no, then I would talk to the tuner and see which parts he recommends for the build as he has probably tuned similar built engines.

I don't know, there aren't a lot of engines out there built to "the hole nine" yards.

Okay, maybe VW Golf engines.
