10" Alpine Type R Sub in factory box..
Hey Guys,
I bought an Alpine V12 MRV-F540 4 Channel Amp which puts out either 4x100 W RMS or 2x200 W RMS in bridged mode. I was thinking of using the two rear channels in bridged mode to power my 10" Alpine Type R Sub and using the two front channels to power my 6.5" components. Do you think this will be enough juice for the sub? If not, how many watts would it need to kick? Any Mono Alpine AMP suggestions? Thanks, AMRik.

2) About 300-450 RMS is what this sub really needs 3) if you want to keep it all alpine you can go with the 500W mono block to get full potential. You could also get by with the 300W mono. |

well 200 W RMS is 66% of what you are saying: 300 W RMS..
Do you think it's really worth it to get another AMP? I mean I don't expect the bass to be booming but I do expect it to be doing something nice.. AmRIk. |

what size is the factory box?
200 watts will power one just fine if you use a larger-than-spec box to bump up the efficiency a bit. I doubt the factory box is large enough to do this though. |

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...roductID=13204 I'm puttin 200 W RMS into that.. it should give a decent sound no? I know it's not the optimal setup and eventually will get a dedicated AMP.. AMRik. |

I think that be a decent clean sounding setup, I ran that setup in my accord except i had different stuff, I rana phoenix gold componet set and 1 10" alumapro alchemy, The amp was a clarion pro audi 4 channel, I used the 2 channels for the componets and the i bridged the other 2 to the sub, I thought the setup was very clean sounding and i was very happy, So I think it be just fine

I have this box/sub:
Powered by this amp: The amp is an alpine 3555. It is a 50wx4 that I have bridged to 200wx2 (RMS). Plenty of power for that sub in an impreza. I just can't wait till I get a better box for it. -- Dave |

I have the same setup as AcquaCow but used Fosgate stuff of the same quality and ratting in a Subie sound box. Sounds great and I never felt I needed more than what I have. Is the Sub a dual voice coil sub or not that could be the decider.

My friend said that bridging 2 channels on a 4 channel AMP to run a sub is not going to sound right.. He reccomended I get a dedicated mono AMP to run the sub and use the 4 channel AMP to power all the speakers..
so i bought an ALpine MONO 350W RMS AMP to power the 10" Type R Sub w/ factory box. and i'm gonna have the 4 Channel ALpine V12 MRV-F540 amp power the speakers.. It's gonna be pretty frickin load amrik. |

eh, bridged brings up the THD a bit, but I don't think I can hear it through the rear seat anyways...
My 4 channel is fine for this. It's .002 THD in normal 4 channel mode... |

If it drags the carpet with it though, velcroing the box to the carpet won't really do anything special. If you did that you'd have to mount the carpet to the trunk also

I put some under the carpet too in my 02. It worked well but if you pull the carpet up alot crap will stick in the velcro and it won't work as good.

buy a 1/4 inch hardboard sheet at home depot. cut it to shape to fit the trunk. Use brackets to screw the sub box into the hardboard. nice no-sliding fit.
