My car Broke ( kinda Long)
Not even 3000 miles on it yet, and its broken. My friend, his girlfriend and myself were driving down the highway, after eating dinner, and I my car starts making this crazy noise, so I pull off to the side of the road and the noise stops. So my friend just thinks the car popped out of gear, which I am thinking "great, let the transmission games begin". Well, we start to drive again, the noise starts right back up, so I stopped again, and turned the car off, and started it back (don't ask me why), turned off all accessories, and started driving again, and the noise didn't start up again. So I figure I will limp it home, and go for broke. Well its been raining here in the Burgh all night, and my windows were fogging over and when I turn the defrost on, the noise starts back up, turn it off of defrost and the noise goes away. So I am thinking something with my Air Conditioning is messed up, no big deal. I have a second car, and I can stand to have the WRX out of commision for a little bit. Take it to the dealer, get the oil changed (for the first time, might as well if it is this close to 3000 miles), get some other things looked at while its there. Anyways I get the car home, and it stopped raining long enough to look under to hood to see if threw a belt or anything. I see the throttle cable (or clutch cable) is shredded down to the metal cable. So basically no more rubber coating, and some burning on the metal. When the cable comes out of the drivers side, then across the front of the motor, there is a plastic ring plug, that holds it to the front plastic engine cover, and that was broken out, and the belt was resting on the A/C belt/pulley. Also the cable was underneath a Metal bracket, that I don't think it is supposed to be. The bracket is just to the right of the pulley, it was resting on. Oh well, sorry for the rant, had to vent a little about my cars first boo boo.

If I understand you correctly the throttle cable became lodged under the belt cover and was getting torn up by the belt/pulley?
Man that sucks. That should be a prime canidate for a warranty replacement though. Don't put it off, get it taken care of ASAP. Also if your throttle cable ever breaks on the highway because of something like this, turn your cruise control on. Cruise uses a seperate cable and it should let you keep pace with the other cars as well as speed up if needed so you can make your way out of traffic safely and onto the side of the road or an exit ramp. Just some more useless information for a situation like this |

Yeah, the car isn't getting driven until its fixed. I want to take it today, but I am not sure if any service is open or not. I know tbe dealer I bought it from has weird hours, but I think they are mostly late weekdays. So most likely my mom and dad will take it Monday or Tuesday, because I have to be at work a 6am everyday.
