Ive gotten to this stage as well. Lol. Enjoying driving the car like a bat out of hell and expecting just around 300 miles a tank max. Swear it makes things much better.

I have a 2013 premium hatch at 2600 miles and this tank currently is looking great. Got 300 miles with a full 3 bars of fuel. Best I've gotten is 32 and the worst was 27 mpg. Will post this tank when I fill up.

It would be interesting to catalog additional factors that may be at play. Hatchback vs. sedan. 17" wheels with larger tires vs. the base models (which I presume is what was used for the EPA calculations). Sport roof rails (and crossbars) vs. bare. Aftermarket spoiler (on 5 door). I have the 5 door Sport CVT with rear spoiler and crossbars. All will negatively affect MPG. I average around 27 MPG with a best tank of 31 (no ethanol).
Thanks |

All good points. I have a 5-door, 5-speed Sport Premium with roof rails but no cross bars (except when my car-top carrier is installed), and no extra spoiler. My best tank was 34.5 MPG running on E10 gas. I'm looking forward to taking a summer road trip using E0 gas.

Man this thread is great! I'm not so into the numbers but my wife is. I give her ***** that our 2006 Rav4 I4 4wd gets 17mpg (long story on the service bulletin) and I love showing her over 300 for a full tank. I visit this thread every week and show her the various experiences of other owners. Our best is 375 with 75% HWY but have been averaging 350 on mixed 50/50.

Hatch base model. Full city in spring to mid November I was averaging about 600km on a full tank. That's about 400 miles I think.

I typically get 30 to 32MPG winter and 35-36mpg summer. Long commute over 30 miles one way. 80%?? highway miles Driving speed limit or a little more (with flow of traffic. 60 to 70mph) Cement roads for most of it that grooved in the direction of traffic. 34psi or there abouts. I don't check them that often. Minnesota 10% ethanol gas year round. Shell gas station most of the time. CVT Sport Premium. No cross rails or added spoiler. Stock tires yet. My guess is length of drive. My MPG plummets the first 5 miles, but then recovers slowly during the rest of the drive. If I only drove 8 miles to work my MPG would be considerably less. Even a Prius will have troubles with short commuts since the battery will eventually run out of charge and won't charge on short commutes. Last edited by jd_24; 02-13-2013 at 09:45 AM. Reason: typo |

I changed my commute from taking the interstate to taking the back country roads. It adds about 5 or 10 minutes at most, is about 8 miles shorter, and includes stop signs and traffic lights.
But I'm not tempted to do 75-80 mph. My max speed is 55-60. Changing my commute has sent my fuel economy from 27-28 mpg to 30+. 10% ethanol gas from WaWa. |

How dare any of you suggest that the type of driving (short distance vs long), speed of the drive (60 vs 80mph), or the temperament of the driver, or the fuel blend, could have ANY influence whatsoever on the 'misrepresented' EPA MPG's for the Impreza (ignore the data on Fuelly, and Consumer Reports praise as well).
C'mon, lets get serious and discuss spreadsheets, and stop blaming the driver. Everyone, except those getting reasonable MPG's with their Impreza, knows that the fault lies with the stars (Subaru logo!), and not ourselves. |

http://www.afdc.energy.gov/laws/laws/MN/tech/3252 All gasoline sold or offered for sale in Minnesota must contain at least 10% ethanol (E10), or the maximum percent of denatured ethanol the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) allows in all vehicles regardless of model year. Gasoline-ethanol blends must comply with ASTM specification D4814-08b. Effective August 30, 2015, all gasoline sold or offered for sale in the state must contain at least 20% ethanol (E20), unless, by December 31, 2014, ethanol has already replaced 20% of all motor vehicle fuel sold in the state, or EPA has not granted approval for the use of E20 in all vehicles regardless of model year. Certain exemptions apply. (Reference House File 2398, 2012, and Minnesota Statutes 239.761 and 239.791) |

Zeeper, I know you've written this as a tongue-in-cheek type post. I generally see (and often agree with) the points you're trying to make. Trolling like this destroys what credibility and respect you build with your informative posts.

As far as mileage, by and large reading the posts written by those who tend to fall in the group of low MPG's tells a prosepective buyer what they need to know: The car is not very forgiving of short trips with a cold engine, speeds over 65mph, or a heavy foot. It will also get worse MPG's with winter blends. Buyers who are happy with the MPG's tend to be those who are not speeding, do not have a heavy foot, and have trips that allow the car to warm up completely. I've never said it is impossible or even unlikely that anyone could get very bad MPG's with the Impreza, though some of the people who tend to get low MPG's have said it is the fault of the car, or that the EPA test was gamed, or have discounted the claims of those who get EPA or better MPG numbers. As far as credibility, I don't get renumeration for posting, so I don't really care much about that, anyone who reads the forum can skip over any posts they don't like. BTW one of the biggest lobbying groups against adding ethanol to gasoline or increasing the percentage are motorcyclists, many of whom have carburated engines that are very suceptible to damage from the high alcohol content of the new blends. |
