Default 99 Legacy GT 4EAT problems.

Is there anyone here that really knows these transmissions? I had posted this before but never got a real response. The car always goes into reverse instantly but the engagement when you put it in drive is slow. Once in drive, the car shifts flawlessly without any slipping or odd shifting. Seems like a fluid leak to me or a solenoid not doing its job.

Can anyone enlighten me as to how they work or what the problem may be?

Ryan

I had the same problem I think with the 1 to 2 and/or 2 to 3 shift the first time after the car has sat for awhile. I was told by SOA and they backed it up with a factory written explanation. It seems that there is an acumulator
(resevoir) that holds some ATF to supply the various supply lines. When the car is first driven sometimes the resevoir has leaked down and must be refilled. The hesitation is the time required for the refill. SOA says that it does not affect the transmission life and is not a problem. My 2000 Forester with 76,000 miles has done this for the last 50,000 miles without problems or any change in shift charesteristics. If my car was under wareenty I would get it on record so IF problems arose later you have some documentation. ed

This problem happens even right after the car has been driven. You can be sitting with the car running, put it in park then immediately back into drive and the delay is still there.
