Lightbulb Bulls tongue? Bullstong? Biltong? BILTONG !!

In the states this is called beef jerky, the processed stuff you buy from the grocery store or gas stations. In South Africa we had the real stuff, so I thought i'd make some over here.

If you haven't had it before, I suggest you try it. It's A LOT better than the processed stuff.

Nope.. the salt preserves it. I'll get some updated pictures since they've hardened now, but it pretty much looks like this once it's dried

Mine only takes about 8 hours in my dehydrator. I like using flank steak and I also use different spices.

I didn't even know such things existed. A quick google found a lot, I think i'm going to get one. Which one do you use? Which spices do you use?

You have to tell me more!

I have the Nesco FD-50. I think it was ~$35. I see it's currently unavailable at amazon but they have other models. I think Target has them too.

Nesco makes a ton of different models though. I would say make sure it has a fan as some don't and I would say at least 500W for fast drying. Oh and get one with an adjustable thermostat. The great thing about that one is it's expandable to 12 trays. Plus you can buy fruit roll up trays for it too.

My recipe for 1lb of meat is:
4 tablespoons soy sauce
4 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon grated ginger root
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon curry powder
2 cloves garlic
1/2 to 1 teaspoon salt
Marinate for 4-6 hours
