Default 2012 Impreza High beams = Low beams lighting

My 2012 Impreza has all of a sudden started turning on my low beams (HIDS) when I turn on my high beams or flash them. Does anyone else have this problem?

Does yours have automatic headlights?
The low beams on my car are properly adjusted and I constantly get people flashing their brights at me. So I turn my brights on and leave em till they pass by...
If you don't have some sort of auto headlamp optioned car I'd take it back to the stealership.

Nope, I don't have the auto light option. I think I will bring it to the stealership and see what the issue is.

I'm pretty sure that hid low beams will always stay on with high beams, as cycling a hid light cause permature failure/ wear. Both my 2010 wrx and 2012 sti always had low beams on when the highs were turned on.

Can one of you guys with a '12 impreza do me a favor? Can you see if when you flash your high beams your low beams come on too? Please try without your low beams on & let me know. This is driving me crazy & I want to know if my car has an issue or if this is how the car is supposed to operate. Thank you!!!

I have only used my high beams with my lights on and when I do they don't shut off. I do know that when you turn on your high beams your fog lights shut off. I think that's the way it is supposed to be though.

I have noticed the fogs shut off with the high beams on which is normal but I am 99% sure that before I put my hids in when I turned on the high beams the low beams didn't go on. Now that I have hids and I turn the high beams on with the low beams off the low beams go on and this will eventually deplete the life of my hids. Could you check if your low beams go on when you put your high beams on without having your low beams on initially?

Ok when your lights are not turned on you have daytime running lights, and when you flash, it turns on your HIDs.

When you turn on your lights for night driving it switches to your HIDs and turns off your daytime lights. Now when you flash in this mode your day lights are now your high beams.

So it's a matter of which light mode you're in. Fogs only come on when yours light are on for night driving.

Exactly. I just wanted to make sure that when the low beams are off (DRLs on) and you flash the high beams the low beams coming on as well is normal.

Did you just install the HIDs into the halogen housing or did you get projectors to go with them? I've made an offer on eBay for some HIDs, I'm still waiting for a response from the seller though. So just wondering how you had them set up with regards to the HID cutoff. Just wanted to confirm our 2012 Imprezas take the H11 bulb, is that correct?

Hids are in the stock halogen housing. Yes the low beam is h11. If you buy a quality kit and stay 6000k and under the reflection isn't an issue. This is the kit I bought http://www.ebay.com/itm/6000K-PURE-W...item3cbe33d201 the bulbs are made how they should be and don't over reflect the light like the crap kits on eBay. I've gone through about 8 different $30 hid kits on eBay over the years until I decided to buy this kit. I've had every hid issue under the sun and couldn't be happier with this kit. No bouncing or flickering what so ever and the light gives off a great solid light, not spotty at all. Sure its a little pricy but you get what you pay for.

I never installed HIDs before, it should be a relatively simple process I would assume? I'm sold on the set you had purchased, will be picking them up soon. Thanks.

Yes it's a very simple process, only takes like 15 mins. All of the plugs can only be plugged in one way so you don't need any prior knowledge. Good choice on the kit you won't be disappointed.

The low beams are supposed to stay on with your high beam, it sounds like you hooked up your HIDs as a "plug and play", which they are not.

Our cars headlights are ground switched, so you should have made a dedicated circuit to run these, otherwise you're going to run the risk of WAY too much juice through seriously under rated gauged wire.

That makes sense because when I pull the high beam lever towards me as if I were going to flash someone & hold it, the HIDs are dimmer than normal. I've avoided this problem by not flashing people. When I need to use my high beams I always have my low beams on first anyway so it avoids this issue.

Dude, unhook them immediately, you're passing power to ground and you're running the risk of a fire.

If you don't know how to make a proper circuit for the HIDs, PM me, i can walk you through it

I'm sure I can get them installed and up running but I'm not sure if I can get them hooked up in a proper circuit without any help or instruction. I assume I can pay someone cheap to get them installed, in order to risk any problems down the road hopefully.

Has anyone had any issues with installing HID's and flickering because of the DRL?
