It still comes on when low. But disappears, never tried waiting till it comes on again. I usually call my dealer almost immediately and make an appt.

I've had my light come on and go off a handful of times before, but mine usually stays on until I add oil.
BTW, still waiting to hear back from the dealership about word from SOA. May try calling SOA myself if I dont hear anything by the end of this coming week. |

You could be right about cylinders being bored too smooth because when I got my new short block, they also sent the my engine to a machine shop...to gets machined, no sure if it was the pistons or cylinders but that's what they said |

I don't understand they can say it could be bored too smooth. After a cylinder is bored, the honing tool is used to rough up the cylinder wall to give it the cross-hashing. This allows a film of oil to remain in the cylinder wall. If the honing is done poorly, that will cause the engine to burn oil, so I thought.

My car has just under 14,000 miles on it and at this point does not look to be consuming oil, and hopefully never will. My biggest worry is that down the road the car will start to consume oil at a high rate and be out of power train warranty. Sucks that they have not been able to pin point the problem from the short blocks that they have replaced. I really feel for you guys who consume oil at high rates!

This is HIGHLY unlikely, as long as you change your oil at the recommended interval. Cars that burn oil seem to do so from the start. If yours isn't consuming oil now, it likely never will.

Well, I finally got the call from the dealership to drop my car off July 8th so they can disassemble the engine and find out what's causing the excessive oil consumption. Not sure how long it'll be there but here's hoping that they give me something good for a loaner. Keeping my fingers crossed for a wrx lol.

I wouldnt want a dealership tearing my engine apart. Replace? Yes
As mentioned keep track of all the time your car has been in the shop. A lemon law may help you. |

My guess is that I'll get a replacement engine/short block. A service rep did say something to me before about SOA not willing to just send out a replacement engine without proper documentation of my excessive consumption. Believe me, I plan to ask plenty of questions the day I drop the car off. I still may end up calling SOA beforehand and see what their comments on the situation are. |

jr0bb5, I feel confident that you'll be taken care of. I don't see why they wouldn't replace the shortblock.

Whelp looks like it might happen to more of us. My light came on at 18300 about 3300 miles into the oil change period. 3/4 of a quart made it right again

Sorry to hear that. Is this all of a sudden or have you noticed it being below the full mark in previous oil changes?

My car has 16.5k miles on it. No oil level concerns at all. I plan to use a 6.5k oil change interval, and right now with 5.5k miles on the oil, my oil level is perfect. |

How in the world did it take me this long to find this thread? I am just about to turn 22k on my sport premium and I have been burning oil since the beginning.

Sorry to hear about your oil burning issue. You've definitely found the right place to discuss it though.

Two part question, after 8k miles with the light not coming on, would I be OK from this? If you are burning oil, will the motor be ok , with the inconvenience of adding oil when needed?
