According to SOA all of the world is a severe driving environment.

When I sent several emails asking the same question- "where in America can I purchase a Subaru that isnt considered a severe environment?"
Finally I got "Please refer to YOUR trusted source of information on the matter." I still cant make much sense of their response. There are many questions about the car that SOA absolutely refuse to answer or even discuss. |

I don't see how this is remotely possible. How would a car lose resale value after having warranty work done. An engine replacement is not going to show up on a Carfax so how would anyone know? I would hate to be in your shoes dealing with your problem car, but lets not get carried away.

But in a year or so,the used car guides may say something like "look out for non matching #'s". Idk. But I do apologize if I get excited at times. and yeah it does suck to have this car and deal with the HEADACHES. But thank you for politely refuting/rebutting my statement. |

Damn, civility has returned!
Maybe I should donate my car to CR and C&D and let them go at it. Yeah, right... Just put on the vinyl graphics. Man they look sweet. I have Charlie Brown pouring gasoline on the subaru logo. He's smiling with a cig hanging out of his mouth. Damn is it funny! Looks really sweet. Gonna add an "I HATE MY" over a sube logo tomorrow. He even got the color pretty close to ism. ThNks JR for the most thoughtful and hilarious gift anyones ever thought up!""" |

A daily 35 mile highway commute should qualify for the 7500 mile interval. If you need a simple rule, change your oil every 15 tanks of fuel (not exceeding 7500 mi). |

Yes....I did urge you to bring it in.....not thinking that the tech would pull a bonehead move....some of which was my fault because I was not able to inform him that an oil consumption test was to be performed. He was unaware that you had been there before stating you were consuming oil and that we were starting the test. Was he dumb to put in extra oil? Yes! Why he did it, I have no idea. It's not something he was told to do. Did he get bitched at? Yes....not only by me, (and I gave him an earful) but by Jason, (the service manager) and the owner.....he was told that is not how things are done and he should not have taken it upon himself to do such a thing. However, the proper amount of oil was drained out and it was filled to the proper level. We would have been able to continue with the test. However, now that the oil has been changed several times since then by you, the test will have to be started over. You had every right to be p-'ed off....I was too. That's how I am when something isn't right. I assumed everything was fine and you would be back in a about a thousand miles....then 2 days later started reading this thread. Knowing how you felt, there was no way I was going to reach out to you....what was the point? You were p'ed off and thought that everyone at SOA was out to get you, which is not true. I still receive phone calls from them asking if you have come back and I tell them no...with no reason given. No one at our dealer is ticked off at you, nor SOA. Maybe at Bill Bryan, but I can't speak for them. Your vehicle, nor your name has been red-flagged with SOA. I have wanted to respond in this thread many times but slapped my hand back and bit my tongue....mostly hoping that I would have an answer for all of you, and partly because I didn't want to respond when my blood was boiling over things you were saying that I know weren't true....not only about us as a dealer, but about SOA. I have worked for 3 different car companies in service and I know, for a fact that Subaru is one of the best companies out there. They bend over backwards to help out customers....when the have the facts to make the situation right. Right now information is being gathered to find out if there is a problem or situation. But bitching on a website and bashing dealers is not going to get a resolution. Taking your car to a dealer and documenting the issue is how things are resolved. This is how many manufacturers gather information to issue a service bullettin, or in some cases, a recall. Hard facts are what resolves issues, not slander and misinformation on websites. There simply has not been enough cases of oil consumption documented for Subaru to issue a 'known' fix. Unless they gather enough cases, there probably never will be. They will fix the known ones and be done with it. Will there be others out there with the problem? I'm sure, but bitching on a forum won't get the car repaired. It was ME that brought it to the attention of the area technical rep that there may be a problem with oil consumption, one that has still NOT been confirmed by Subaru. This technical rep sat in the service managers office and made several phone calls to people at Subaru inquiring if there were any reports of oil consumption on the Foresters. (At the time, Imprezas were just coming out and most had not reach mileage to warrant an oil change). No one he called had heard of any and he asked us to start keeping track of oil lights coming on before an oil change was due. Why do most dealers say they see oil consumption all the time? Because they probably do, I know we do. But until we can send some hard facts to Subaru, there is nothing we can do. We can't just replace short blocks because we 'feel' there is an issue. There are procedures we have to follow. Sorry if I sound bitchy, and maybe I am (It hasn't been a good day when your husband is in the hospital....again), but now was the time to clear the air and let you know that neither us nor Subaru is out to get you or any other Impreza owner with an oil consumption issue. Was a mistake made? Yes, however it was one that was rectified. |

^^^ this is exactly why you're not going to get far or resolve anything with a bad attitude 79. Someone on your side that you managed to smear the name of an entire dealership & her on this forum. Had you followed through politely you could have accurate tests done, maybe showing consumption beyond the threshold & maybe in the process of a replacement at this point. I strongly urge you to suck it up & return there with your tail between your legs & an apology & let them help you. You're your own worst enemy.

I think 79 was mostly pissed off at SOA and Bill Bryan....Then he just kinda ate the loss because he wasn't losing enough and has just been keeping track himself since no one wanted to help at SOA, which is above the actual dealerships, correct?
He had REALLY high hopes for the next dealership as far as I remember. The thing is...he was an early adopter of the oil loss....and him being as anal as he was is not bad...but it was serving him nothing except frustration and no one was coming to his side. Eventually there were others because of his posts coming out of the woodwork that had the same trobles as he was having. But imagine no one but him was on this forum.....yikes....just think of that....everyone would just think he's nuts. Well...I wouldn't but.....that's because I had problems no one could solve...as I've stated before. So I'm sure that until his car burns/loses more than say 1200 per oil change he's stuck in limbo. At some point you give up caring. Those oil tests sound very annoying...it's sad that the car buyer feels like being a beta tester for a new PC game. In fact...SOA whould give them a nice WRX loaner and keep the defective car and drive it around. |

Thanks for a mature response. I think it will be lost on '79, like all the previous mature responses. I have no doubt that SOA will work out a solution to the problem after it is identified. If your car consumes oil, and you want remediation under warranty, it won't happen unless you work with a dealer authorized to perform warranty work. Keeping good records, and organizing together, should help, rather than hinder, that process. Pissing and moaning on a website, and slandering a dealer that tried to help? Not so much. |

As with any endeavour involving customers it is always easy for both parties to become frustrated with a situation and give up after a while. Hopefully there has been a sufficient cooling off period that calmer heads will prevail. If we don't all work together then nothing gets resolved. Hopefully these candid responses will elicit a calm and rationale response and help move this issue along as till such a time that a replacement can be approved. I would say for all the oil burners to hang in there, try no to get too frustrated and try to get the consumption test done. I would personally wait until it gets warmer as winter temps might make your car consume less.

FWIW, the is slightly off topic, but my dad had his catalytic converter go and it was outside of the warranty. My dad made a couple calls and in the end, they sent him a check for $1300 to cover the cost to replace the converter.
They didn't have to, but they did. And this is why we've only owned Subaru's for the past 15 years or so. I would be pissed as well if my Impreza is drinking oil (thankfully it isn't yet), but you have to have some patience, especially with a new engine and car. |
