Default Rear brake seems to stick

Came home in my 01 RS and noticed a brake smell. Well, I checked the right rear brake and it was extremely hot. I just got off the highway so no stop and go traffic and the other brakes were fine. What could cause this brake to stick and what is the possible solution?

Most likely the caliper sliders are seized. You need to remove them and re-grease with a suitable high-temp brake grease. If they are too far gone you may need to replace them.

caliper pins sieze often
boots tear, dirt/dust get inside - grease flows out and you get lock up

buy a rebuild kit + slider pin
regrease - reboot - replace pin
and you'll be golden

you might want to double check your pads to see what you've got left back there?

typically a stuck pin destroys brake pads.

Have replaced the pads like 3 weeks ago. I'll get a rebuild kit.

regardless.... check them

a stuck caliper is continuously pressing pad against rotor
thus... the whole stuck thing

be sure to inspect them before reinstalling

I shall disassemble the caliper and grease everything. I shall then drive it and see if the problem persists.

I got em. I just pull back the boots off the pin. Was a little dry so I put some caliper grease in there. We'll see if that does the trick.

I would also check your roto for warpage, grooving and allowable thickness. you may want to use a brake silicone compound, no grease of any kind because they have petrolem and may cause damage to boots and under high temp greese gets fluid like.

It's high temp synthetic caliper grease. It's specifically made for this application.

Well, I got everything back together and got home to find the rotor red hot. GREAT! So, I am guessing the piston is sticking. Going to have to order a whole new caliper. Lovely. Damn Yankee cars!!! Rust is a bitch!
