Aftermarket catback install question..nuts/bolts rattling off
Hey all..
I just put my 5zigen cat back system on and a week later after it got progressively louder, I put it on the ramps again and one of the bolts between the 5zigen center pipe and the zigen exhaust had disappeared. Thus the noise. I was unhappy with the fit between the 5zigen center pipe and the stock cat pipe so i put the stock center pipe back in and connected it to the zigen exhaust with the gasket inbetween. My question is how does leaving out the washers influence the nuts/bolts rattling off eventually? What are the best washers to use here and where should i use them to hold this thing together better? TIA Mike |

Torquing down the fastner the proper amount will keep the fastener from rattling apart. Use a split washer to help keep tension on the fastners. You might want to use a mild Lock Tight, not the heavy duty stuff.

To echo what Storer said, you can either use a lockwasher which looks like a washer with a slit halfway through it....or use a Nyloc, which is a steel nut with a nylon insert which greatly improves retention forces. The fit is kinda crappy from the cat to my mid pipe (2.25" apexi) but so far no leaks. I went the Nyloc route..just FYI.
