Lifted thread! Post your lifted Subarus. How you did it..and the good and bad
Just wanted to make a thread on how people are lifting their Subaru's. Ive started to see people using Forester springs to lift Impreza's and older Legacy's.
Im about to do this myself. Some people are saying that they are having no issues and some people are saying they have a ton of problems. Im wondering now if the Forester Swift springs are used on our cars, it still will get a lift but not cause any issues... So everyone post your lifts and the issues or non issues that you are having. Thanks, Nick

Sorry I was quick to sign off before. I'm working from my cell phone right now. What I wanted to get out of this thread was the good and bad things from lifting your vehicle. What I'm going to try to do is find stock hieght measurements of both the forester and the impreza. Then I'm going find hieghts of the impreza and legacy with forester springs. With that I will find hieghts of the forester with Swift springs. From all this I'm going to try to figure out which is the "safest" way. Right now jackson rally has a great set of spacers that lift the car 1 inch. They will allow your vehicle to be aligned properly with room to spare. Ill be back with all the measurements and calculations. Until then feel free to post your lift setups and the corrections that you did.
I'm trying to make this more of a "how to" guide instead of what we have in the members gallery. Which happens to be my favorite thread by the way. Your cars look awsome... thanks ... |

Look up Jackson Rally, they usually run in the Dirty Impreza boards. They have a bolt on plate that will lift your. No need to change your struts or springs. It is a pretty cool steup and i am thinking of putting them on so that I don't have to crank up my spring tension to get my car higher.

OK,
I posted something on the Subaru Forester forums about messurments from the center of the rim to the center of the fender on both stock and Swift springs. While Im waiting for reponse from: ( http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulle...09/#post714274 ) Ill do a little more research on other stuff..Ill go on the Outback forums and see what going on there.... For now if you guys can copy and paste the following list into a post and fill it out with you cars specs it would be great. Thanks! Type of Lift: Springs/Spacers/Others Chronic issues: Size of wheels/width/offset: Size of tires: Rubbing issues: Any other comments: |

Ok, so I got some good info from the dudes on the forester forums and makes a lot of sense regaurding every good thing that I've heard on the outback forums.
Things I knew: 1: The impreza outback window sticker states "heavy duty raised suspention." 2. Putting a wider tire especially a 215/65 or 60 will rub on 55et rim. 3. For some reason no outback sport is having any kind of issue just by installing Forester springs... Some things I didn't know which I should have. 1. Ifound out that Forester swift springs are basically the same height as impreza wagon springs. The thing is that the perch is lower on the Forester strut. 2. The impreza outback is the only impreza that comes with the same spacers that the forester comes with (subframe). So in order for the regular impreza and wrx guys to use stock forester springs and not have any issue is to use stock struts/any impreza strut and get the outback sport or forester subframe spacerd. |

After me spending MONTHS of researching, trial, error, bloody knuckles, and multiple allignment, I've figured it out. I just got done lifting my 99 OBS, here's what I did. I was actually going to make a thread about this soon, but I know the anticipation would kill you so here is a briefing. I'll still get the thread together this week with a detailed tutorial.
The year of the parts you will need is most likely differnent than me, but I will just say what I used. Parts you will aboslutely need from another car: -Front and rear crossmember spacers + the their elongated bolts (I used a 99 Outback). -Front of the rear diff spacers + their elongated bolts (I used a 99 Outback). -Control Arm mounts (I used 99 Outback). Note the difference. -Longer suspension (I used an 04 Forester XT). -Longer steering coupler (I used a 99 Outback, but had to shorten it about 3/4 of an inch by cutting out a section in the center and welding it back together). -You will need to space the trailing arm bolt closest to the front of the car using whatever washers you have laying around in order to center the back wheels. If you skip this step your wheels will look like this. I also used Outback trailing arms. This is how they look after I spaced them. Ok, I'm falling asleep and can't think anymore. I think those are the basics. Note that this is major surgery, it's not a basic bolt on sway bar endlink replacment. Here are some more pics. Overall lift is about 3.5 inches, and the drop of the crossmembers were about 1.5 inches. This means there is a still a 2 inch suspension lift, and I get a weird vibration around 2.3k RPM's in second gear. It's nothing compared to the massive violent shake I got when I simply installed Forester suspension. It ruined my axles via binding them, caused my tranmission to leak, and it puts massive strain on your front differential. DO NOT SIMPLY LIFT YOUR SUB WITHOUT DROPPING THE TRANS TOO! I'm putting in WRX axles and an Outback drive shaft soon to see if that helps. I'm currently running new Outback axles. A few other things, in order to run bigger tires you will need wheel spacers or run a 205 width tire. The struts are too close to your tires. I suppose your only other option would be to find an offset tire. Another things I'd reccommend are thicker sway bars. I'll list EVERYTHING in the thread, I guess I'll try and get it up tomorrow. Good luck man. Last edited by dgsblb2; 06-09-2010 at 11:33 PM. |

Nice lift "dgsblb2" , glad it worked out for you. I also had that slight vibration at about 2.5K, after I replaced a front axle with one from a 03, after repairing the original axle and putting it back in, the vibration was gone. Subaru used small body spacers on the 05 and 06 Bajas to increase ride height. I think there is a small difference in the axles between 03 and 05 as well.

Great info, guys! I'm considering doing something similar, as I will be moving from now snow (in San Ramon, CA) to 20-70 ft of snow annually (in Soda Springs [on Donner sumitt], CA). Seeing as how I'd like to drive over the snow and not drag it along with me when I have to drive and the plows aren't out, I'd like to lift my impreza a couple inches.
