Finally got the chance to retrofit my 2012 Impreza Sports Premium
Big thanks to www.theretrofitsource.com
I wonder if I'm the 1st if not only to retrofit this car. LOL! Parts list: -Morimoto Mini D2S Stage III kit -Morimoto 5Five 50W 5000k D2S kit -Blazers projector fogs -Morimoto 3Five 35W 3000k 880 kit My garage is really small as you can see. I'm so glad I went this route. I love everything about it. |

Super clean install! Those new headlights look perfect for a retrofitted projector.

50W in a Mini D2S is generally a bad idea. The bowls will burn in time and you will lose output. I suggest 35W bulbs and ballasts to avoid this.
Otherwise clean install. How'd you mount the fog lights behind the stock lens? |

Thanks guys! Yeah I did alot of questionings at the retrofitsource.com and the guy reassured me that using the 50w ballasts with 50w hid bulbs won't give as much heat as compared to using a 50w ballasts with a 35w hid bulbs which overpowers them which creates alot of those heat issues and shorten the lifespan of the bulbs too. Plus the 50w hid bulbs glass capsule is made thicker from the 35w ones which suppose to help out with the heat problem. I think you are referring to the Mini H1, which don't have the 50W option when you make an order, plus the back reflector bowl is so much smaller as well, which makes it not compatible with the 50W setup. As for the foglights. here's a couple of pics I did.
Cut a hole big enough to fit the foglights. And I just use the leftover headlight sealant to seal all around the edges and then I just use the stock foglights mounting brackets to mount the whole thing. I used a little bit of JB Weld to secure the Blazers mounting holes to the oem brackets and it seems to work well. Sorry I didn't take any pics of the completed mounting of the fogs as it was getting really late and we hurried to get it all done. Last edited by JDMSTA; 04-01-2012 at 08:10 PM. |

Each fog light assembly is $135.00 @ the stealer! Ouch! I was trying to buy a set to have no down time. What size are those Blazer Projectors? 2.5" ?

Now on to the interior lighting?
I just picked up my 2012 Sport Premium, making us a 2-Subie family. I am looking for suggestions on footwell lighting like we have on our 2011 Forester. When I get that done I wanted to modify my fog lights just the way you did. Thanks.

Thanks alot guys for them big ups! I just realized I never posted the beam pattern pics with low and high beam on.
I'm pretty sure you guys noticed the color differences in the high beam compared to the low beam. Its because my stock halogen high beam is on at the same time to give it that color tint. |

I don't think you would lose it. The projector bolts onto the original reflector housing so I can still use the original levelers. So you should be fine.

VERY nice. Are your halogen highs well aligned as well, or did you screw it up by aligning the HIDS?

Looks like they blend pretty well with the halogen high beam. What are the bulbs for the high beam on the 2012? Wondering if you can throw 9011 or 9012 HIR in there.
Is it possible your camera was not in manual mode (fixed settings) because it looks like the camera tuned down the exposure on your highs picture. Look at the truck wheels on the right, they are darker in the highs picture, which is obviously not the case in real life. It would be interesting to take 2 pics in manual mode with same settings to compare the lows and the double highs |

My camera is on manual mode but I'm a noobie with DSLR camera and I think I adjusted the shutter speed because it was showing overexposure on the meter when the high beam was on. It was really bright. I think I should re-take the pics and not re-adjust the shutter speed when the high beam is on. I am using a sylvania ultra silverstar 9005 for the stock high beam though.

LOL! Thanks dude! I really never thought too much about getting paid to do this since not many people I know is into retrofitting like I do. I only did another reftrofitting beside this one for a friend's 93 integra. But I think this is easy enough for you to attempt it yourself since this was my very 1st try at retrofitting and it came out great. I'd say give it a try and take your time doing it. You should be okay. But if you're willing to pay me to do it for you. Sure I'll do it.
