Default Help! HID install gone bad?

Hi guys,

I'm in dire need of help here. I've installed a set of HIDs onto my EDM projectors and physically everything (wire, harness) looks good but.... they don't work.

My fogs are ok, as are my high beams and I've removed the drl module. I'll go check the low beam fuses to see if they are blown and I don't think I crossed the wires but maybe i did? Woudn't something snap, crackle and pop if I did?

If anybody can think of something, the advice will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Gin

Do they do anything when you switch to hi beams?

I had followed a wiring diagram posted on this site and it was a bit unclear... had a couple wires switched and it kept blowing fuses. Someone posted the correct wiring and everything worked.

Good luck!

Yungimoto, my highbeams are ok. I have the SPW kit if that's any help. Unfortunately they didn't arrive with instructions and i've been doing it blind.

Thanks

How did you wire your HIDs? Did you just connect them to the factory headlight connectors?
The best way to install HIDs is to connect the ballast negative connections to a direct vehicle ground, either chassis or battery negative. The ballast positives can go to the headlight common positive, or if you want, to the battery positive through a relay. If you use the existing common positive you may need to increase the fuse size from 15A to 20A, but only do this if the fuse blows from the HID startup current. Whether or not this happens will depend on the particular HID kit you have.

Well, I think I installed everything correctly.

1> removed the drl module under the glovebox

2> modified my harness to two seperate feeds. my highbeams work correctly when I switch to them

3> second feed connects to a harness supplied by the HID kit. The harness splits to a connection for the ballast, a resistor, and two ground points. Both grounded to the chassis.

4> the ballast connects to the HID bulb.

Did I miss something? I do know that the resistor clicks but thats about it.

Resistors don't click. You mean relays perhaps?
Can't say much else at this point without actually seeing your car (which might be possible since we are in the same area).
If you have a meter or test light you should check for power starting at the ballasts and work your way back to find where it is getting lost.

Oh yeah, you're right. It is the relays. If you're free, wanna give me a hand? There's a beer in it for you. =)

Talking

Yes! We have HID. I would like to thank Mulder for coming over and helping me out. While I'm here, I might as well make a quick write up for future database searches.

If you purchase the H1 SPW HID Plus kit for your EDM/JDM projectors and it doesnt come with instructions, you may be confused with the placement of the grounds as was I.

The following would be the order of how the supplied parts will be connected (x2):

HID bulb ----------> ballast ----------> supplied harness with relay and TWO ground points -----------> power

The most confusing part will be the grounding. The ground that is closest to the relay will be attached to the chassis and the ground furthest from the relay will attach to the battery. Once you get past this point, it's easy as pie.
