Default 2006 Tribeca replacing the drivers side low beam again

I am sick of this crap.

I have had to replace the low beam headlight for the 3rd time since my wife has had the car(78,000 miles), driver side only.

I am not buying the bs about how subaru says that the low beams are driving lights and on all the time so it should be expected. I have had my STi for 7 years and 178,000 miles and replaced 2 low beam headlights. They are always on...

I am surprised noone else is as pissed as I am about this problem and not posting.

Just checking to see if there is any new info as to this problem. Something tells me this is alot more common than my search shows..

Just have to vent on this...

I believe there is a real defect either in the design of said headlight or in the manufacturing process and SOA is just trying to ignore it. I have replaced the driver's side headlight 4 times now and the passenger side once and my 2006 Tribeca now has 112,000 miles on it. I totally agree there is a real issue here. In fact, if you read some of the threads regarding replacing the headlights on the Tribeca, you will notice a lot of comments about the driver side light going out much more in particular. You might want to have the dealer replace it so the bulb is at least under warranty for a year...

I must've gotten lucky, because my 06 has 126k and I've only had to replace one headlight and one taillight bulb so far. Ofcourse my GPS no longer locks on to any satellites anymore, so I guess it's not all good luck. I'd trade replacing a headlight every year for a working GPS.

Hi I bought my 06 Tribeca 3 years ago and had the same problem. I managed to fix it by moving the e brake sensor from behind the pedal. I just loosened and twisted the bolt and now its fixed. The only thing is the emergency brake light stays on but saves me money and time. Hope it's helpful info.

How does that fix a bulb burning out prematurely exactly? I'm confused...

It turns off the DRL, extending the bulb time if you're the type that does a lot of daytime driving. I just use the single click e-brake method and ignore the brake warning lamp. If you figure the runtime including DRL hours, the bulbs probably last as long as any others. My passenger side low beam is still the original, but I do notice that it is dimmer than the driver side, which I replaced last year.

All of my past SUbaru's had DRL's and NONE of them ever had a headlight go out at all. My Tribeca is a different story...

Different car, different bulbs, different wiring, different driving pattern, take your pick. You can choose to take it up with SOA, file a lawsuit, fix it yourself or use the e-brake. All I can say is that at 130k miles, I'm getting what I consider normal or even longer than expected bulb life, by not using the DRL. With so many new cars equipped with DRLs on the road now, I can't count the number of one eyed monsters I see on the road everyday and it doesn't surprise me one bit.
