where to go for tires?
I have my wheels coming soon and have been shopping for tires. Where do you guys go for best prices?
What about mounting? Who do you trust not to scratch your brand new wheels? Tires I'm looking at are: 225/45/17 Kumho Ecsta MX Falken Azenis 115 (if still avail)

I need 225, i really want to do 235/45, but don't want to rub. I'm getting 17x8 +42 wheels.
I didn't realizes discount price matches. I'll have to check that out. |

you might have a hard time with a +42 offset. if you can get them to miss the fender then I'd image you could easily fit a 235 under there. depending on your suspension you might be able to go significantly wider than that even... assuming you can get the +42 offset to work.
(edit) uh, sorry, I meant to add that yeah, try Discount Tire. and negotiate with them as suggested, it works. |

you could also order them from tirerack and have delivered to and mounted here: http://www.ftlperformance.com/ Russ runs this out of his garage but he does an awesome job balancing them.

discounttiredirect.com is having free shipping...saves you 40 bucks. This time its *actually* free shipping and not added into the cost of the tires.

I definitely vote for discount tire, if the tire blows while it still has legal tread, they replace it for free (you just pay state disposal fees, which are like $15 per tire here in Cali)

Russ is awesome and did a great job with my wheels/tires. Guys at discount will toss them about. Besides, I would rather support a local. |

What works well, and which many folks have done, is to order wheels and/or tires from Tire Rack and have them shipped to our location. We contact you when they arrive to set up installation.
Tire Rack has some crazy low shipping rates, so shipping is usually less than the sales tax you'd pay locally. Regards, Russ FTL Performance |

still curious about the +42 offset thing. what has your research found? supposin' a fat tire might be an issue there also but if it does fit it should look pretty tough, for sure.
an issue I'm having with the OE STi BBS's is that they're inboard quite a bit (+53). I'm putting new tires on tomorrow and I'm slightly worried that they're going to hit the spring perch on my coilovers.. lot's of room the other direction though... I also worry that you might have some "track" related issues with that offset (track, not "race track"). I think it was sportcompactcar that ran a wheel with a low offset and had some performance issues with them, same issue with people that run spacers (which I might have to do myself). ?? |

I guess I'll have to experience for myself what the effects are of these wheels. http://www.weds.co.jp/products/wedss..._imprezza.html Here's a picture from the manufacturer's website running 17x8 +42 on an impreza. I really like the fitment, but I want to know what size tire those are on. Last edited by SeattleWRX; 06-30-2005 at 02:19 PM. |

the tricky thing about photo cars is that they dont have to function worth a poo so it can be tricky to replicate that look. however, my 17x8's have a 45mm offset. 3mm is just a little under 1/8th of an inch, its actually 0.118200, which would be the difference between my 45mm wheels and your 42's. like ive stated before, the tires on my wagon are 235's and they dont rub with rolled fenders and -1,2 degrees of camber. i think with the sedan fenders youll have enough extra room for the wheel to come out another 1/8th inch and still clear the fender. the local board member ProjectL has a brother that has a wagon with 42mm offset volks that do rub on his wagon but i believe it was the usuall cornering and rear seat passengers that caused them to rub. i think youll be ok with the sedan fenders.

I'll probably just run 225/45 to be safe. I like the 45's better.
