In the instant research dept: having car aligned now-what kind of caster specs are you folks running?

I'd try to be around 6* if you can get that much. I never check mine honestly, I just know I have more and I like it.

Caster: as much as you can get, which isn't going to be enough. Only way to adjust is with camber plates that allow for caster (usually not much) and offset bushings. If you have neither, than you can't really do any adjusting. It will be wherever it is.

I like that bolded selection.

I think that is exactly what I told rapidbutterfly awhile back!

yazel turning into moneybags!! someone else must have mistaken you for Rutledge Wood and given you his paycheck!

Looking forward to a fun year in STU, meeting more folks in the class.

Yaz/Abrum, May 25-26 Great Lakes Divisional in Ohio... We could have a GREAT STU battle, with you two, a pair of Mike's & myself... though i'm the only dsm. :P

Josh - are you running the offset bushings? I figured it would cause too much tire rubbing on an STI, but I'll put it on if it's working for you I used them on my old WRX and liked the improvement.

thanks all, and yes yazel, you did. :-) I was thinking while cooling my heels in the alignment shop - what if I can get some super crazy numbers - because (again as you know, but others here don't) I have camber / caster plates now - is there an upper limit? but it was academic to an extent, as the best I could do was about 4.7 degrees. :-)

Thankfully all of it was discounted... I don't ball as hard as my doppleganger Rutledge.

Also... even though I already agreed to coming to that divisional event... I literally just realized I am already heading to Florida that week... Yes I suck at planning/timing ... I know..

Yep, running them now with no issues. The 15mm spacers on the front might be helping from rubbing on the inside...just a guess.

Yeah, I was getting ready to say the same thing. I'll be in Lincoln and actually driving it my own car there that weekend.

LOL. Ok so maybe I'll convince Yazel and I's buddy Josh to go over to Ohio. He'll be in a pretty well prepped car (unless austin want's to leave me his car then I'll be there haha).

I have a week old baby girl so hopefully I'll make it to more national events this year. I'm not doing my closest regions events at all. Might spectate. But I'll be doing hopefully all of Indianapolis' points events and literally as many national events as Yazel and I can make it to.

I might head to Columbus that weekend. Depends on what plans SWMBO has for me.

I did two "seasons" at Columbus. It's filled with great guys but if you show up in a well prepped car, its boring. There's little to no PAX competition and the surface sucks. I'm willing to drive 2x the distance to Indy events if that says anything about it.

I know this topic was touched on earlier but I decided to contact SCCA in my region to see what they had to say about. So i want to share my findings with my fellow Subies:

This is regarding the Crawford AOS which caps off the stock PCV.

I wrote to the South Carolina Region SCCA:

"The 2013 classing rules for Street touring in Section 14.10 C. states:
The air intake system up to, but not including, the engine inlet may be
modified or replaced. The engine inlet is the throttle body, carburetor,
compressor inlet, or intake manifold, whichever comes first. The
existing structure of the car may not be modified for the passage of
ducting from the air cleaner to the engine inlet. Holes may be drilled
for mounting. Emissions or engine management components in the
air intake system, such as a PCV valve or mass airflow sensor, may
not be removed, modified, or replaced, and must retain their original
function along the flow path.

I want to install a Crawford Air-Oil Seperator (AOS) on my Subaru WRX STi for ENGINE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY. These cars have a LOT of oil blow-by in autocross. This AOS stops this from occurring. Effectively keeping octane levels from dropping and reducing the occurrence of detonation and knock.

The Crawford AOS installation caps’s off the PCV valve via a rubber cap over the inlet.

I wanted to know if there is any way this safety precaution (AOS) would be permitted in the street touring classification. I think that most would agree that this AOS is not a performance enhancement but rather a safety net in order to compete and keep the engine safe.

If you can advise me on whether or not this is allowable for street touring classification or not, please let me know. If not I would like to propose and exception in the ruling be made to allow for these types of modifications."

This was their reply:

"Your purpose for the modification fits within the "spirit of the rules" as far as I am concerned. It may not pass muster at a national level event, but at local events you will find that your competitors do not mind. The easiest thing to do is just ask your competitors "Hey, I put this on to protect my engine, but I would like to run street touring class against you, do you mind?" 9 times out of 10 they will not mind at a local event. Let me know if you have any further questions, and go play in STU!

Thanks!

Daniel"

My Conclusion: Nothing matters until you get good... lol

Did anyone notice this update to the 2013 Rules for ST:

14.10
J. Any engine or transmission mount is allowed provided it attaches
only to the original mounting points, does not relocate the engine/
transmission (other than incidental to changes in compliance material),
and weighs no less than the OE mount. All components between
the engine/transmission and the mounting structure are considered
to be part of the mount assembly.

This would allow for pitch stop mounts that "weigh in" so-to-speak. Anyone know weight differences on the aftermark pitch stops compared to stock?

Pretty much. Locally, nobody really cares that much...unless there's someone who's lone goal is to win a local championship. But if you run nationally, you don't really care what happens at the local level. But if you're competiting nationally, the expectation is that you have a legit, rules compliant car...and there's potentially contingency at stake as well. So then, yeah, it becomes much more important to care at the pointy end of the class.

Has anyone ever pushed for a ruling change to allow for AOS in ST? I feel like this should be a common sense allowable modification seeing as blow by on turbo Subaru's is an OEM inherent problem.

The point of ST is:

"The Street Touring® category of vehicle modifications is meant to fit
between the current Stock and Street Prepared categories. This category
provides a natural competition outlet for auto enthusiasts using
affordable sports cars and sedans equipped with common suspension
and engine modifications
compatible with street use."

AOS is extremely Common. and the AOS's out there that do not mess with the stock PCV system tend to be less effective for Autocross or hard cornering in general. I've seen some gripe about these others that don't mess with the PCV as being garbage on hard corners.

The Crawford AOS install does not cap off the PCV valve; it deletes it entirely. The PCV valve is directly under the throttle body, and the TB must be removed to gain access.

The PCV valve is considered an emissions control device. Emissions control devices cannot be removed in ST*. (This is why you must remain catted, for example)

Oh a similar note - blow-by shouldn't be too bad in ST*, simply because you're limited to stock boost.

Quick question:

Does anyone have the cobb exhaust on their GD?

Does it meet most venues sound requirement? Their site says 95dB, but that's only at about 3-4k RPM.

Every car has its faults. Not all of them can be fixed with allowances. And a reliability enhancement is a performance enhancement.

<- wouldn't mind an aftermarket clutch

This. Does the Grimmspeed/Prova designs retain the PCV valve?

Please don't take such a cynical perspective. Locally people will probably not care. But if someone is unaware they are prepped outside of the class and eventually do go to a national events and find themselves in a protest action, it leaves an even worse taste. Most regions will mimic the national ruleset to a large part, but most region don't have 200 cars prepared to the Solo Rules show up every event, so why would they sweat the small stuff.

This. You also can't relocate the PCV valve. But you could do a more basic catch can setup, that is legal. I believe the Grimmspeed is as well, although I seem to remember hearing that it wasn't too effective. That's just hearsay though.

Care to explain this? we have 3 national champions. a few who CONSISTENTLY finish 2-4th at nationals, and a few who have started running with us that are in the SAME mix in PAX... quite confused with that statement.
