Default Help which struts for 08 wrx DD

I have been searching and reading for couple weeks now, lots of results for other models, but best I found was for an outback where he wanted it s daily driver like me.

Problem: my mechanic recommended Cusco Zero's even though I told him " its not a track car anymore, its a daily driver , i want to last as long as possible."

After installed and many changes to dampening setting and spring settings
I Give UP. I CANNOT STAND THEM, I nearly Hit my head on ceiling on freeway bumps, my back takes a jolt and it's scary when driving mountain road with holes or ruts. it bobs after the bumps. dampening adjustment effects both in and out- thats the big problem.
I'm sure they and any good strut is great on a Smooth road. DUH ! But these CUSCO's cannot deal with road bumps , freeway bumps here in California.
So Odd, so much money, Most expensive tax's and we have the worst roads.

My Cucsco Zero's are now for sale.

Please help with new strut replacements for my 2008 wrx

Is there any way of having suspension like a bmw 3 series?
I have driven a 2001 323 BMW and I am So AMAZED how well it glides over road bumps and yet handles like on rails on mtn roads.

Also, Which year STI rear sway bar can I fit that is a 20mm bar?

Thank You all

I think all 08+ STI swaybars can fit. 08-14 STI are all 20mm, not sure about 15+

I would look into konis with decent springs or maybe just 11-14 STI springs (I think they fit). Konis sell their inserts as well as full set of fixed perch struts now. That should do it for you.

If you're just looking for daily driver comfort, why not some KYB Excel-Gs? Readily available at rockauto.com.

Thank You Olsen.
I still have my original KYB fronts, (passenger side newer at 35k miles old , driver side pulled out at 125k , but i tossed out my rears, smacking my head now. so I need Rear and springs,

Should I get Koni front + rear ? OR try my KYB and get new Koni rears?
Or get Koni Front and rear?

I hear the Yellow Koni's are adjustable. Is that true?

Thanks guys

my favorite way to see if parts fit is check Rallysportdirect. Their fitment guide has never failed me all these years. Here and there, I would verify this by checking either another vendor or go to an oem parts catalog and see if the same oem part fits across the same models. But keep in mind, in oem catalogs, it only shows it fits if it's the same part.

curious, why did you switch to an 09 STI rear subframe?

Your baseline is an E46 3-series, yes those are very well engineered cars that you can have fun in the twisties with, yet are decently comfortable day to day.

That is going to be hard to get in a WRX IMO.

I would go back to stock suspension or pony up for Ohlins coilovers.

I have a story! I replaced the suspension on my car and it just became impossible to drive! Although I changed the suspension to a new one))))

Yea so upon installing my whiteline 22mm rear sway bar back in 2012 the support braces they give you would not align up with the bolt hole on subframe by about 1/4" , so I asked old mechanic to pull the A arm subframe out just enough to make the brace bolt in. he did but I think he damaged the subframe and didnt tell me because a couple years later I heard a knock/crack and I found a huge crack in the subframe that make since that it was the stress area from being pulled. So I had put in a new subframe, .
my new mechanic told me that The sti subframe has better bushings.
Plus I have a STI rear end LSD. I cant stand a car without one.

I sure wish I could disengage front drive with a lever. but thats another subject. I think greatwhite subaru has it

IN case I didnt mention it - Why I changed my Suspension

My New Mechanic ( Subaru guy) Told me to ditch My Feal Coilovers with 441 Springs and Buy Cusco Zero's. ( I did tell him not trying to make it a track car anymore , needs to ride comfortable )
So I took the loss and sold my Feal s and had him get me Cusco's
After I installed them, they were really stiff ride, so I asked him and he said bring it so he can tune it for an additional $300-400.
First of all they shouldn't need much change
2nd I used a digital caliper to check proper spring load setting/height
3rd I recheck ed spring preload
4th I changed preload a couple times
5th I tried many many dampening settings

Honestly, I didnt do much effort tunning my Feal coils and they rode about the same as Cusco.

Yea great on smooth roads and proved that coiloever's pretty much dont require you to have bigger than stock sway's .

so far tough to find Sti 20mm .
though I'm learning that a 2012 wrx rear sway is 16mm

though that is strange as my 2008 wrx is 17mm
i jumped to whiteline 22m but it was to much for my 20mm front

How can I get some real user feedback- why Koni's over KYB Excel G? for daily driver some spirit driving but tough roads.

Koni's are adjustable dampening

be perfect if could drop height by 1/2-3/4" but does that effect geometry in a bad way ?
