Default RE070 on Raining Day

RE070s (Stock tires of STi) are Max Performance Tires on "DRY" road. How do they perform on raining day?? How will they compare to RE92s which comes stock on WRX. What is the lowest recommended temp to drive around town without any problem??? Thanx

They're not great in the rain but at full tread depth you should be fine. I doubt RE92's would be any better in anything but deep standing water although I've never tried it.

I had no issues whatsoever in torrential downpours when the tires were relatively new - even at freeway speeds - to the point of not really being able to SEE for all the rain.

RE070s own -sure they don't have the same wet traction as S-03s or PS2s, but they are still pretty damn good and their dry traction is unrivaled by anything in the bridgestone or michelin line.

Same here, I've tracked the car in the rain (cold 45F at that) at full thread depth...the car being awd seemed like a rocket glued to the pavement compared to other cars. So maybe not the greatest, but they do real fine.

whtlegacy, of course I did appreciate your input. I just wanted to hear from other drivers as well. Seems like they will be fine during Atlanta's raining summer. Thanx for all the inputs.

I think they are pretty crappy in the rain. Felt like the back end of the car was all over the place. I would say they are about equal with teh Azenis ST215's when it comes to wet handling.

I still have the OEM RE070s on my STi, now with 10,000mi on them. Yes, they're toast! But they still work surprisingly well in the rain! Yes, if you lay on the gas you can get the car to slide at will. The same is true in the dry these days

If you're just running back forth to work or the grocery store, even well-used RE070s won't be a problem. Mine are toast and they still grip better in the wet than the Yokohama AVS-ES100s I had on my last car! On the other hand, if you want to go canyon carving in a torrential downpour you'll either need newer RE070s than I have or an all-season tire.
