Default Phoenix: Weekly Westside meet pics, Take 2 (~1024x768)

This was my second trip out to this meet in Glendale, AZ... first trip here. This was the maiden voyage for my new Manfrotto tripod/head, and I now know why good tripods are so expensive. This thing is awesome, and the grip head I have is really convenient and easy to use. Anyway, hope you like them!

Great pics Mike, thanks for including one with my battered and bruised GC.

I especially love the 7th one, the lighting seems perfect for that shot.

No problem, bro, and thanks again for making me feel welcome at the meets on the westside. It makes the sting of being out here for work a lot less painful.

I love me some GCs. I have some pics of the black one, too, which I'll get to later this weekend.

Thanks! While I don't like the reflections in the bumper, I was pleased with the dramatic lighting/shadows in that particular spot in the lot. The big spoiler also helped in that regard.

wow awesome pics...ne advice on how to get such clean pictures like that...longer exposures?, tri-pod?...iso/shutter-speed settings? I am learning how to take good night pictures but just cant seem to get it right....using a canon 20d with 580ex flash...what camera and lens are you using?

My memory is hazy, but I think that's treefrogaz's GF's car... I'll see if I have more.

Yeah, next meet, we'll get some by the fountains/water... it should make for a good backdrop.

I'm using an XTi w/ a number of different lenses. If you're not used to shooting in manual, just use Program AE (P) or Aperture Priority AE (Av). P will give you a lot of freedoms that you don't have in Auto (ISO, WB, etc.), and Av will give you additional control over DOF. A tripod will also give you the opportunity to focus on the shots themselves instead of worrying about whether your pictures will be blurry or not.

Longer exposure for low light. Tripod is a must if you plan on shooting something with a shutter speed less than 1/250 handheld. ISO; the lower it is=less noise in the pics, so if you're using a tripod, it's not too big of a deal.
A 20d is a nice camera. If you want to take low light photos handheld without a flash, look into getting the Canon 50mm 1.8 prime lens. $70 and is amazing. A flash isn't always necessary at night for car pics since it'll reflect off the cars, and people don't usually try for that. I'd suggest reading the manual some more, check out www.flickr.com and search around, and just keep playing with the camera.

Shot #1 is dead sexy! And I have the exact same car other than the colored headlights, and I didn't think it'd make that much of a difference, but DAMN. Awesome.

Where are you moving from? Just check the threads in the SWIC regionals... it's mostly AZ stuff anyway.
