I'm fixing to install a hidden-hitch on my '08 5 door...wish the wiring was plug and play like on my previous '07 OBS. Has anyone looked to see if the '08 has a plug in connector like the prior years ? I still have my '07's OEM hitch and OEM and wiring box...I'd like to see if I can use the box still.

Looks like you'll be the guinea pig. Try looking for the connector in the same area as the previous model. GL.

That's where I was going to start...initial forays seem to indicate that routing of wires has changed somewhat. I might get to know more this weekend....

I installed a Curt Hitch onto my 04 WRX Sedan and it towed a dirt bike without problems. It was an easy install and I only had to remove about 3/4 of an inch off the driver side rear fender for clearance. I used a Lenox razor blade to do that.
Now my question is, has anyone done the wiring for this hitch & model year suby? If so, what kind of wiring kit did you use, and where did you get it? |

The car handled everything well. Oh yeah, I had the 5X8 trailer, not the 4X8. It still worked out great.
I am planning on doing exactly what you did.. I put the hitch on today, and in a couple of months I am planning a cross country move with the subbie, towing a uhaul just like that! Thank you so much for posting this! Tomorrow comes the wiring! |

I towed a 4'x8' Uhaul trailer 1587 miles from Philadelphia to Houston last Tuesday-Thursday. No problems at all! It was nice having the cruise control work easily with the turbo to climb 2000 foot hills/mountains without having to downshift. I am using Cobb Stage 2, though I put it in economy mode for the entire trip. Was about 25 mpg for the whole trip.

I just used a universal wiring kit. It's cheap, easy and works. You can get one at any autoparts store. I had them on my bugeye with 02 tail lights and now with 04 tails. You just need to do some simple spicing. The wrx actually flows enough amps so you should be fine with a simple universal kit.

I just got this thing
It weighs 600 pounds. Width: 3.9 feet (47") Length: 6.9 feet (83") Does anybody know if a 5'x8' trailer like this one would work? |

I don't see a problem, as long as everything is balanced out properly. Make sure the weight totals under 2000, and you should be kosher.

I've been thinking about taking my hitch off. Toying with the idea of selling my motorcycle so I wouldn't need the hitch for towing. I do like the convenience of the hitch mounted bike rack though. The most annoying thing is how it angles my exhaust downward.

i have an 02 wrx wagon, stage 2 with ppg's, perrin up pipe and an "ebay special" turbo back, i think it is the xs turbo ssautochrome, and RCE wagon springs with Koni's..
i have a couple questions. first, context clues tell me the 2000 lb limit is the entire loaded trailer weight if i were to put the trailer on a scale, but what is tounge weight? second, on the e-trailer website pictures of the draw-tite and hidden hitch show 3 bolt holes per side for mounting and the curt only shows 2, is this an issue? third, would any of those clear my exhaust? i am sure you all have seen this style, the muffler is basically a straight pipe angled up. and last, i am planning on hauling a 150-200 lb lotus 7 replica frame, camero rear axle, 200 lbs of tools, and myself and a passenger.. it would be around a 900 mile round trip, do i need a trailer? my original plan was to load up the car with all the tools and rear axle then just strap the frame to my roof rack, but the frame weighs about 50-100 lbs more than subaru rates it... |

tongue weight should be no more than 200lb, but you should easily be able to balance the load and keep it around 100lb. My general rule of thumb is that I should be able to easily lift it with 2 hands and dead lift it with 1 if I had to...
As for trailer -vs- rack... 900 miles with 200lbs on the roof might not be a great idea. We've put ~250lb on our MINI, but it's rack it much better than the subaru's... Not sure what rack you have, but I have a thule and any time you put over 100lbs up there you can see the bars flex. Just to no wreck the roof, I'd opt for the trailer. What about renting a pickup or van though? Something the frame would fit in the back of? Trailers aren't cheap (unless you have one to borrow??) and the hitch price would pay for a lot of the rental fee... Especially if this was a day or 2 trip with unlimited mileage. |

thanks for the info.. i just have the stock roof rack and cross bars that came with my wagon. i would probably borrow or rent a trailer.. i would like to buy one eventually because hauling lawn mowers in the back on the wagon gets old during the summer. as for the renting a van, i looked into u-haul and a couple other places and it seems like they classify cargo vans as "specialty vehicles" which people under 24 can not rent..on top of that i couldn't find an unlimited mileage u-haul so it would cost around 500 bucks, the rest were about $250 + gas.. i'm going to keep looking into it and call around instead of checking online but i figured i would post here and ask about trailering..

Any clutch rec's for a Stage2 wrx that tows often?
So after 103K fun miles of towing 2K lbs, rallyX and autoX events, and a couple nights of drag racing-my stock clutch finally is slipping under full load. I dont want to do anything super aggressive as it will shorten the lifespan of the 5spd even moreso than I already have, and I wont be able to slip the clutch to ease the trailer's movement from a stop. Any suggestions for the towing friendly before I ask around the local shops? I guess I'll be doing my own labor, so part suggestions is what I'm hoping someone has.
Thanks Erik |

Its great having pics on here so you actually see how it looks. Just a quick question. Has anyone installed a trailer hitch on the new wagons that had the SPT package? I was curious if it would still work due to the different pieces. Wasnt sure if some of the parts would be different in size then the regular exhaust package. I would rather go with the trailer hitch then the roof mounted bike rack. Thanks for the help as always.
