Default Do you think this is going to cause problems?

I've had the borla header and OEM oil cooler on my RS for roughly a year if not more and previously the header had been wrapped (with no problems). It had been smoking lately due to the fact that oil had saturated the header wrap near the oil filter during an oil change so I took off the wrap.(which immediately stopped the smoking). Now my only concern is that the oil filter and the header are very close to each other. Are oil filters very heat resistant and do you think this is going to cause problems down the road. Here are some crappy pics I snapped from under the car. (The two do not touch, but are very close)

AFAIK the outside of an oil filter is extremely heat resistant. If you give it some time and don't see any deformation I wouldn't worry about it.

You could also re-wrap it right?

I could, but everytime I changed my oil, it would be a serious pain in the ass unsrewing and screwing the oil filter back on.

I have had my Borla's on for 2 oil changes and I havne't seen any deformation or any issues with the filter with the headers that close.. so i wouldn't worry about it too much
plus if your worried about getting oil onthe "rewraped" header.. take a screw driver and poke a hole in the bottom of filter before you remove it.. and just put a bit of aluminum foil over the wrapped header before you change ur oil.. should keep it clean

I don't see why it would mess up the filter but it can't be the best thing in the world to heat up your oil like that. The oil filter can is nothing special, just relatively thin sheet metal.

Maybe you could try one of the smaller filters released by Subaru for the late model turbos because the larger ones were too close to the downpipe. Just a thought, don't know if there would be any fitment or other issues.

my car is NA, not turbo so I'm not sure if the filters would be compatible, hopefully they would be just in case it did result in a problem
