Default Question for owners of Continental ContiExtremeContact Tires

Hi again, everyone. I've done several searches and I still can't find a solid opinion on this...I'm driving a 2002 RS with a 20mm rear swaybar and Prodrive springs on stock struts. I'm running 205/55-16's on the stock rims, and I'm wondering what psi front to rear works best. I do some fairly aggressive driving with a monthy rallycross or two thrown in. I realize that there are other threads that address psi issues, but usually there's 3 or 4 different opinions, plus some people think that the conti's need to be aired up higher than stock. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Brian

34 front 30 rear is a good compromise between steering response and ride quality

36 front and 34 rear - I don't race or auto-X so can't speak on that part but for road driving I am very happy with these settings.

Default Im on a chalk soapbox. Do the chalk!

just my 2cents for testing tire pressures with chalk...

I think it’s a really cool way to find out how your driving, in your vehicle, in your environment is interacting with the contact patch.

Sean's directions on how to use chalk:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=267049

I like Luke’s suggestion of 34/30, a 4lb spread steers more neutral than a 2lb spread, which will hook your nose in more (not necessarily bad) when you come off the gas in a turn… personal preferences vary. Also, Im sure the 36/34 gets better gas mileage, but worse rain and snow perfomance. A 30 rear will hang on in snow much better.

Try the chalk, you’ll enjoy it :-)

I run Conti's 205-55-16 at 36F 34R. Any higher and you lose traction and braking suffers.

I have a 2002 RS with the SPT strut spring kit, 20mm rear bar, 99 RS wheels, and 4pot fronts.

I just bought 4 225/40/18 new from a dealer and all of them are out of round. They all had major runout and could not be balanced, which gives a mean shake on the freeway. I was told by the dealer that this has happened more than once with these tires. I am getting them replaced by another brand. Just a heads up.

Default I like my ContiExtremeContacts

I have the same size contis that you do and I haven't had any problems...purchased from discount tire. I have read that the tires need more pressure than most. I run 40 in front and 38 in back. My personal reason is because the conti's sidewall is not that stiff and the extra pressure gives you a minor degree of extra protection from pot holes. I don't track the car...just hall a$$ to and from work.
