M2 Turbo back Exhaust so far...
Well,
I installed the Full Turbo back system from M2 performance. The quality of the welds were...ok. The cut in the metal were...ok. YES the performnace increase was ...GREAT. Very smooth running through all gears. Quicker spool and higher/faster needle action. THE BAD THING: 45.1 miles into my new toy...CEL I will contact M2 and se what they can do. BTW: MY CAR IS STOCK (except for the new turbo-back) I also, just put in 92 octane from valero...before the CEL came on.

i hear you pull alot o tings marc
Let me speak with M2 first. I am sure that they want this issue resolved before they sell mass units to the public. In the mean time, thanks for your offer. I'll more than likely go see you to puul the code. BTW, I will have to kill you for potentially blowing my cover. |

I am sorry to hear such bad news .... mainly because it might actually mean that mine should be throwing a CEL .... but I am not the paranoid type
They should be able to resolve it pretty quick, since I think they already knew of a solution if it did "break". I know its got to be annoying, but at least its not hurting normal performance, correct? Have you turned your stereo on since you have gotten it? Philip |

Things i did...while putting in exhaust system i disconnected the battery (RESET), after pipes were all in...drove to VALERO for full tank o 92 octane. YEs radio works. Power band is wayyy smooth and considerably more responsive. I am happy with the gains and design of the system. We will see how this CEL issue is taken care of.

no need to be paranoid. M2 has thought in advance of this minor event. I believe that the have created another midpipe that puts the o2 sensor on the otherside (after) the converter.
Besides, it's only a light. and we all know why its coming on. |

Are you guys saying that the CEL comes on but it does not affect the car in any way? Does the CPU goes into limp mode or it is just the CEL on and nothing more? I think Philip did not reset his CPU.. Did ya Philip? and still no CEL?
By the way do you guys have M2's phone handy. I seem to have lost all me e-mails from the I-club and I cannot find it. Thanks T. PS Pleasanton is close to where I live but I work all the way accross the bay in Redwood Shores so if I go ahead and put the system tomorrow...it would be too late. Thanks for the offer. |

The car does not go into "limp" mode. If you ask me...that sounds like a personal issue.
Anyway, A very odd thing happened this morning. I started the car and the CEL was GONE!? I have reset the car two times (once before the install and then again after the first CEL). I have driven ~70 miles with the CEL. I woke up, went to start the car and....that little puppy vanished. Hmmmm, i have no idea why that happened? |

I didn't reset the ECU and it doesn't go into limp mode. If the system isn't on your car yet, I would wait to get the exhaust with the new mid pipe. They should already have them, if not early this week. |

Can't say my car is 100% free of CELs anymore At 10,612 miles, my car had its first CEL.....
I still can't rule it as the exhaust (even if thats the best guess), since I have been running it for over a 1k miles and just now getting one. I will have to get the code pulled to be sure, but if it is the exhaust, I think I know why I haven't been getting it before. I still have the cat before the turbo (in the up-pipe), and I never push the car over 4k till I feel the oil has suffient time to move around (with my only indication right now being the water temp guage...). Well after doing a quick shopping trip in Wal-Mart, I came out, the temp was still "warm". I worked my way out of the parking lot, right when I was hitting the street an older mustang seemed to want to play, so I hit it pretty hard, got the CEL in middle of accelerating past her Letting it warm up like I normally do, probally allowed the cat before the turbo to actually work really well, getting on it before it was warmed up could of thrown emmisions out of "normal" levels. I still am not positive the code, so I am just guessing right now. No performance downgrade because of it, which is nice. Philip |

this was a question that I asked in the turbo forum. the O2 sensor is before the cat in the up-pipe, so that has nothing to do with the CEL. I don't think any of us has replaced the up-pipe so you are running the same setup that we have.

so what is the story with the mid pipe having a O2 sensor then? Is it there OEM or not? Since we do drop a cat with the install (and replace the other with a free flowing one?)maybe there is a O2 somewhere?

I'd just like to provide a little reassurance that the code we are getting is in fact the P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold [Bank 1]). That's what I got when I pulled my codes today.
I installed the exhaust last Tuesday evening and about 150 miles into the deal on Wednesday I got the CEL. I reset it on Friday and let it be, then Saturday night, with about 158 miles since the reset, it came on again. This time I was able to hook it up and pull the code. The only one I had in there was the P0420 Some info on it, happened at 68MPH, 2662.25 RPM's...just cruising along on the freeway. That's how I knew for sure when the light came on, it wasn't due to something I had done, since I was just meandering along. Now...when it came on last week...well, that was like five miles after I was being pretty rough on it...so I wasn't real sure. Anyways...just a little confirmation for the guys at M2, we are getting the light we think we are, or at least I am so far. Like I care, the system still kicks ass. Philip may be on to something though, assuming he drives like a Grandma! Since the CEL is not triggered for a P0420 error until the system reaches an "average" which is no longer acceptable, then going easy on the car could mean you go longer before the CEL comes on. This is why the light does not come on instantly after the exhaust change, as the O2 sensor needs to take many readings over time to show the efficiency of the catalytic converter system has degraded (or, in our case, disappeared!). So maybe Philip was just a grandma with his car and got it to last 1,000 miles before throwing a code. Though the rest of us (I'm counting the BPM guys with the same code here) all seemed to get about 150 miles or so between CEL's. Now...how Chris got 43...man, I don't want to know how you drive. Anyways...no worries now that I know for certain what the code is...car is still awesome! [ June 11, 2001: Message edited by: jdgti ] |

I am only a "grandma" driver till I feel like the engine has had time to warm up. Since I have no guages as of yet to tell me, it would probally be a lot longer than most of you.
There are many factors that could of been a factor in having such a late code, one just being how I warm up the car, but it also could be as simple as the leaded race gas that has ran through the car before putting the exhaust on(coated the first cat?).....who knows. As I stated, I don't even know if the CEL I have is because of it (I am still figuring out a way to get it pulled). The CEL light sure hasn't bothered my driving habit any. Just a minor annoyance. any of you guys have the rear diff protector?
from my understanding is that they are going to move the O2 bung behind the cat and give us an extension for the sensor. I saw on a post that MRT is putting the cat in the down pipe (O2 is beind it). personally I like the moving bung better because of the cat is in the stock location and much easier to pass the visual or a pig glancing under the car. jdgti, how is the exhaust and MBC combo? I have the hallman MBC sitting here and have not had time to install yet. Have you had a chance to do a gtech run with both? |

I cannot wait until M2 introduces more goodies... I would be number one in line to test them out. Thanks a million again M2.

BTW, did you cut out the stock heat shield and put in back on? I mean the shield near the intercooler. |

T- since you just got yours, is the O2 sensor behind the cat?
Chris, did you put the heatshield back on? It is awfully hot under there without it, if you did does it help? Can I check it out if you did, I'd like to put it back on. Oh by the way got the MBC installed and dialed in. wow! |

M2 says the re in the process of making a heat shield to fit that turbo back. I was at the shop and they told me that i should just snip the old one for now. I'll do it this weekend. BTW, it is suppsoed to really help sicne that inetcooler is minimal at best. We don't need an more hot air going there
