replacing one tire...
I'm replacing one tire for free (kumho asx 215/45/17)
The rest of the tires are the exact same but worn slightly. they are 5~6 / 32's the new tire is 9~/32's Is this alot to worry about? is there a best place to put this replacement tire (front/back)

You wont have any troubles. Kinda funny I just posted about this in another thread.
Placement of the tire will have no benefit, so put it where ever. What I just wrote: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...55&postcount=5 |

I was bored and did some math about this 1/4" rule.. on circumference. on a 215/45 tire...17 rim.
cicumfrence of that is 77.34..... 5 /32 down its 76.364 4 32's down down its 76.56 3/32's down is76.75 2/32's down its 76.95 1/32 down its 77.15ish Notice how its only within little over 1 32 difference? sounds like a little bit to specific tolerance to me. Tirerack says 2/32's for subaru and 4/32's for audi... and porsche says 30***37;... i"ve had my tires about 5k... and the new one says its 10/32's on website, i measured one around 9 new and guess that'll be it more likely meaning my 5-6ish should be ok acorrding to audi's standards... I"m getting realigned too and the guy says not to put new tire in front.. thats why rear. SO audi's circumfrence :OK: is 3/4 in according to this size tire... hopefully i'll be within 3-4 myself... in 32's... |

I just punched a hole in the sidewall of a Conti EC DW. Didn't have a tread depth gauge with me but it's still showing the "DW". I'm trying to decide whether to replace the one, or buy a second new tire and put them both on the front. Because there is more weight there I'm thinking they will wear down pretty fast.
Sidewall puncture FTL. No rush since I just put the snow tires on. Last edited by Garandman; 11-27-2013 at 12:18 PM. |

Scotty, those are the DW, not the DWS.
I think it's a pretty good "civilized" performance tire. The best way to know is to measure them. The Tire Rack can shave a new one down to exactly match the others. It looks like there is lots of meat left, so I doubt they would have to shave much. You don't want a big discrepancy from side to side OR front to back. I use the DW as my winter tires. Awesome rain tire. |

Subaru recommends a difference of no greater than 2/32".
Replace the axle-set (two tires). |

Replace all or have the tire that needs replacement shaved down to the proper 32nd by the tire rack.
Excess heat and damage. Shaving a tire or replacing a set is alot better than a trans, center diff or rear diff down the road. |
