Ok, it is my understanding that all outbacks 2001+ have a rear LSD, right? or at least all that have the cold weather package? cause there is an '01 OB H6 LL Bean in my JY that should have a 4.11 ratio to match the 5mt i want to swap into my GT.

Ok I found the right place I think for my question.... Currently I have a 2003 wrx manual in my 1995 legacy L and I ruined my manual transmission and I was looking around at rear diff ratios and is the 04 STi really the only other transmission I can find to work with my diff? Can someone else please tell me there is like a TS or RS transmission I can use? these stock trans are so expensive...

Can anyone tell me what rear cv's I can use on a Japan spec 02 sti r180 diff to a 97 legacy outback hubs. The legacy outback has smaller spline count? But still has a r180 rear diff.
Thanks.

Default 2002 Forester LSD swap

Since I can't post a New Topic and its not covered here. I have a 2002 forester a/t 4.44 open diff and i found a 2001 4.44 LSD, I would like to put the LSD in the 02. My question is are the axles different and would there be and other mods i would have to do to swap it. All the parts look ups i do only list 1 cv axle not 1 for the open and 1 for the lsd. But thats where i need the help, please
Thank you
Don

Default 02 forester lsd swap

Hi,
I have a 2002 forester 2.5l, a/t, Rear Drum Brakes, 4.44 open diff, and i found a 2001 4.44 LSD, I would like to put the LSD in the 02. My goal is for better traction in the snow/icy conditions in Buffalo, NY. This is not for off roading or racing, just a daily driver. I ask because my 04 Forester has a LSD rear end and it is so much better in the snow.
So My questions are:

1. Are the axles different between the open and lsd All the parts look ups i do only list 1 cv axle, not 1 for the open diff and a different 1 for the lsd.

2. Is there any difference in the driveshaft length or ujoint size from the tranny to the rear end

3. Would there be and other mods i would have to do to swap it.

4. I have done a search but couldn't find a write up on this, if you know of a write up please let me know.

5. and last, instead of the doing the carrier swap, would it be better to replace the internals with an aftermarket LSD, (money is the concern with this option)

Thank you

'01 diff should be a direct replacement.

I have an 02 RS 2.5 4EAT made in Canada. Does this car have limited slip differential?

Did you use the 03 wrx rear diff when you swaped? 02-03 wrx 5 speeds are 3.90 front but the rear is 3.543 due to the 1:1.1 transfer gears.

Great. Thanks for that clarification. I recently replaced the diff with an identical from the salvage yard. I put 75w90 gear oil in it. Should i have used an additive? Or should i just drain it and use a genuine subie product?

I have a 2002 wrx, is there a way that, by looking at th housing, to tell if it has or has not lsd? By the way the car behaves i don't think it has...just need to be certain before planning a possible upgrade. Thank you.
