Default best intake for '06 2.5i

I know this is a lame topic (and I should use the search bar) but I'm pretty sure things change fairly frequently in the '06 modding department and I'm trying to get the best opinions possible.

Anyway, I'm currently driving around a stock 2.5i with around 1300 miles on it, and while I'm not looking to play around with modding it before 3-5k miles at the earliest, I would love to hear from any people here who have used a cold air/short ram/whatever intake with good results on an '06.

I feel a little lame driving it around stock, because I love cars/engines in an amateurish sort of way and I would love to spice mine up a little. I'm especially interested in intakes which might utilize the scoop on a WRX hood, but I'm not sure such a thing exists aside from the gravelsport(?) intake which got discontinued a while ago, so I hear. I would love to hear otherwise, though.

However, I don't want an intake system that will reduce the life of my engine- I don't know much about it, but I've heard that some intakes will cause a faulty reading from the airflow sensor which leads to running lean, and that's no good in my book. I don't want to kill my engine- I just want to make it a little faster.

Also, any info on good exhaust systems to use with the '06 would be appreciated. I guess my eventual plan for this car is to get some nice suspension going, maybe with some rotational mass lightening measures like aftermarket pulleys/flywheels and such, but I don't really want to mess with the engine internals too much.

p.s. i have had a bit to drink tonight so sorry if this doesn't make sense... I will come back tomorrow and fix any weird errors I might have made.

all mods to an engine supposingly shorten its life but who really knows there are highly tuned cars running around with 0 issues and high miles all about how you treat it

intakes... either the 05 injen or some rallitek one, are the only two and im not a real fan of the rallitek intake

the gravelsport will not work for your car it was only made for the 00-01 which did not have your maf and id be a pain to design around

any catback from 98-06 will work on your car, i mean theres no real difference in them other than slight sound and look, just make sure its for a rs not a wrx

thanks for your input...

I don't know much about the year-to-year differences between subaru models, so any help is appreciated.

I will check out the Injen intake for sure.

I just bought a 2005 Injen CAI for the RS and will have it installed on my 2006 2.5i as soon as it arrives...

I've heard good things about it. Can't wait to hear how it sounds.

Sure will.

I know it will sound nice. I heard a 2005 RS with one.

Sounds pretty mean. Deep growl.

Guess what? Intakes dont really do much. Jamie told me so, the subie techs told me, upscale auto techs told me. Save your money!

They do make the N/A models sound meaner, however. So, that's a plus!

if you cant make the RS cars fast, then sounding nice is the next best thing..

i just got the 2.5i myself, and im loving it.. i have wife and kids so i dont really need to go speeding and stuff..

but i would want to make it a nice handeling car with the odd autoX courses now and then...

Intakes dont do much? yea they dont do MUCH, but they do something, its better than stock... if you have money to throw into the car, go for it, why not, theres not much out there anyway right now, plus the sound an air intake makes, especially and injen, you cant beat. I will be purchasing the same intake as soon as i have the finances

You also get some power... 2-3 HP maybe.
And I've heard of better MPG.

If you can increase your MPG by 0.5 MPG with a CAI it will pay itself off.

I agree completely. You definitley gain something from CAI.

I just put the Injen 05 RS intake on my 2.5i, I love it! I think I'm getting more then 2-3hp... my guess is somewhere around... 5-7hp more... but who knows for sure. Either way, the car sounds awesome, and when you have the throttle buried above 4k.... its nasty. I would reccommend the Injen CAI highly!

Nitrous is our only choice for power gain. After my trans am sells. ill get a injen intake and put a NX express wet kit on my 06. I plan on only a 50 shot, but id like to know what the stock fuel system is capable of.

I got the 06 as a winter beater but i decided i am done with my mullet car. It has ls1 with all the bolt ons big torque converter big cam, titanium valvetrain. It sounds mean and feels pretty fast... but the car is junk. Americans cant design a good car for the life of them. It weighs 3700lbs with me and empty gas tank in it. Its huge car, but you have no room to work on it. It has no interior space...

Moving on, id like to tease other hondas, stock wrx's or mustang gt's with my 2.5i i think a 50 shot will give me all i need. My sentra se-r ran 12.70's with a 75shot and bolt ons.

If you're going to get something, gotta love the WeaponR Secret Weapon. Anyone who can advertise with this picture gets a vote for sillyness.

PS - and that's what SubieSport used on the Zero-to-Hero RS and gained a couple HP...

i have an injen CAI intake and sti axleback exhaust on my 2.5i. i'm really happy with the sound and engine response from those mods. don't really care for speed atm. it's a slow car to begin with handling is where it's at! i got the CAI and axleback for the sound really. call me rice or what not, but i like the rumble of an exhaust and sucking of an intake when i drive makes knowing shift points easier too (without looking at the tach).
