No one buys sti for fuel economy. You buy it for awesomeness. I wouldnt even look at mpg per tank more then once or twice.

Who cares about mpg, you have a freakin sti lol

Multiply that by 2 and that is similar to my situation, that makes a big difference financially

True. But I certainly don't drive 20,000 miles a year. For me the loss is around $250-$300 a year IF I DROVE STRICTLY HIGHWAY for 12-15K miles a year. Which I don't. Those figures were from a road trip I took where I was merely going with the flow at those speeds. Considerable amount of extreme city, stop & go driving daily for me. With that, if I granny the highway portion of my daily commute I'm at best going to get 32 mpg mixed. Sooo... for me in the end, my faster highway runs will only cost me around $125/yr & that's a loss I'm willing to take to enjoy my car.

Well converted to miles I do about 5900 a year and gas costs about 5.16 a gallon. I don't know what i would save my math isn't that good.

(that's about 10,000km a year and gas at 1.36 a litre)

i do love the new impreza. it replaced a mercedes c240 4matic as the road trip car. not as smooth but a whole lot better all around. to put it in perspective, i only drive 4 miles a day from home to school (2 miles each way) I take very long distance road trips. surprisingly, with the amount of short trips and long road trips, i dont have a problem with oil consumption. just saying. although, break-in was probably not easy as this car also replaced my honda s2000 as my daily driver.

I have 3 cars to spread the mileage on. Jeep and truck get 15 on average. Subbie gets 30 on avg. Even if I beat the snot out of the impreza I am still winning vs the other 2 cars!

I have a '10 Legacy Ltd. and on a 300 mile highway trip, we got 40.3 mpg. No BS. I couldn't believe it. Been thinking of adding the Impreza Sport Ltd. to the stable, but with the mpg miles I'm seeing posted here, I see no reason to go to a car with this little power and torque, and not see better mpg. Think I'll look at the WRX again...

If you read back a little, I did a trip from toronto to ottawa and back and averaged, converted to mpg, 42.265mpg at a highway speed of 65mph
with cruise on and minimal ac.

That's a distance of about 280 miles each way.

Thats really good. But i think this car only gets numbers that high on road trips. Probably askin too much, but I wish i could see 33 city mpg to compliment my 40ish mpg highway.

Not a terrible idea, but the n/a impreza isnt as bad on gas as it may seem in this thread. 30 mpg isnt bad for awd and youd be struggling to get that in a wrx. 40 is out of the question. But it is a wrx after all... lol

Yes. Been averaging, again converted, 28.2 mpg all city before that road trip. But that's still way better then my 08! That was getting at best 21mpg.

I want to get 1 million mpg on my city commute. Unfortunately that might mean riding a bike... I guess the Imp will have to do until a reasonable battery car comes out.

I did 2 fillups today.,

First was 220 miles, 26.9mpg lots of highway at 85mph with 20-30mph headwinds.

Second was 37.5 miles, 34.1 mpg at 72.5 mph pure highway. Just because i was curious. I know what isn't 100% accurate though as i had been seeing closer to 31.5 at similar speeds and longer distances.

I'm still happy

This is the first car i religously watch mpg, but cold morning starts KILL mpg. If i reset trip odometer after shes warm and good weather i can avg 42 mpg on highway.

cold morning starts before i get to highway im gettin prob 20 mpg. lol

obv i would expect lower mpg during cold start/cold weather but thats a big gap. Oh well, im sure its similair to most cars

I'm wondering if those of you who are able to achieve 40-something MPGs have found a source of gas that doesn't contain any ethanol?

All of the gas sources I've found so far contain 10% ethanol, and it's my understanding that ethanol contains less energy content than gasoline, so naturally my (and everyone's) MPGs suffer as a result.

(I'm sure the ethanol industry argues that the cost of my gas is also cheaper than gas without any ethanol, so I'm not at any disadvantage.)

The best MPGs I've gotten on a road trip is 37, so I'm curious if those of you getting 40+ are using gas without any ethanol.

Nope I just get gas anywhere. The people who get over 40mpg simply just drive on highway longer.

These cars can maintain ~45mpg at 60mph so the longer you drive at those speeds without acc/decelerating the closer youll get to 45.

I just broke 10,000 miles today. I feel like my cars getting old. lol
